Lift Status

Postby Fonzie18 » Thu Jan 21, 2010 8:07 am

I was planning on heading up to June from San Diego tonight to make use of my season pass. I have noticed that J1 and J2 are the only lifts operating for the last couple days (I think they closed yesterday?). Would it be too much of a gamble to head up and not ride the upper mtn. till maybe Saturday/Sunday? Right now I plan on staying local (Bro Bear), which shouldn't be too bad...definitely wont won't be the sux tho!

I'm headed up late tonight (after midnight) as well. Take care if you're leaving tonight - bulk of the storm sounds like it might be coming through this evening - might be road closures.

But the website says all lifts expected today, and NWS says the winds and snow should by dying down by tomorrow am. All lifts probably won't be open first thing in the am due to avi work, but I'm hoping J7 is open by the afternoon. Who knows about the face.

worst case, I'll ski mammoth on friday and june over the weekend.

Hope you have a good trip.

I would say get your butt up there. June's website updated at 8:13 this morning says all lfits are expected today. I just got off the phone with a friend up there and he was eating breakfast as fast as he could because he talked to Eric (patrol director) and it's highly likely that the top will open today.

See ya Saturday morning bright and early.

edit: doc you just beat me to it. Have fun, see ya up there. Sunday could be really really good.

I'm wondering the same thing for tomorrow??? Hopefully they'll have all the lifts open tomorrow. If not there's always the other place. :?:

snow is finally sticking down here in bishop w/ about 1/2" or so. Reading CT's rd conditions snow is down to Little Lake on 395.

Considering the fact the 395 has been closed multiple times in the last couple of days from Bishop and from Mammoth, Id be weary of driving up. If you do, be VERY CAREFUL on the roads!

What's the deal with J4 and J6 not expected to run tomorrow (according to the website)? Is it because it's midweek? Is it a maintanence issue? Is it because it's too flat over there with all the snow we got? I hope it's the last one!

I would never go down Silverado or Comstock when its been snowing like this!
-Chairs 5, 12, and 25 are the best.
-I don't care how much you argue, the chair 14 outpost is never open.
-June Mountain is the suxiest ski area in the world, you should never go there.

You pretty much nailed it. J4 is old and slow, the runs over there flatten out at the bottom and people get stuck. Yesterday people were going up J2 and getting stuck on the way down and patrol had to give them sled rides back to the chalet.

June Sux and should not be ridden on pow days.

Although J1 has good advanced and expert runs and if you're intermediate, the canyon trail is steep enough (I think) that you won't get too stuck. :!:
