Summer employment

Postby SkiSantaCruz » Thu Nov 05, 2009 10:58 pm

Hi there,

I would love to spend the summer in mammoth and possibly work for the mountain. Whatever they need done, I'd like to do it! I can hardly ever make it up to mammoth during the winter, as I go to school in Santa Cruz. But I think it would be so much fun to spend a summer there.

Does anyone know if they hire seasonal employees for the summer months, and if so, do they offer employee housing?

Any tips on how to get a job and manage not to spend everything I make on lodging?

Thanks!!

Sure they do...they have a Bike Park to operate, plus all their other properties and retail shops The Village!

Check back on this employment site come April, May and June.

You could also put in for summer employment as a seasonal with the USFS, Inyo National Forest, Mammoth Ranger District and check for other summer programs through private camps, etc.

Friends of the Inyo stewardship program (http://www.friendsoftheinyo.org ),
Eastern Sierra Land Trust (http://www.easternsierralandtrust.org ), etc.

I remember the young lady attending the register at the Bodie Museum this summer mention that she was working there through AmeriCorps ... FWIW.
It's just fun to be out in the mountains having a good time.

Thanks for all the great tips! :D

Does anyone know when employers (mmsa, NFS, etc) start to hire for the summer?

I assume you are already a ski bum, now you just need to be a fly fishing bum. Rick's and kittredge revert to fly fishing gear during the summer.

My experience is the summer employment is hopeless here. If yo work for the Mt in the summer, you will only get full time if you work the gondi. Otherwise it is less than 30 hours a week. The mt does not start up to work until June 20th and works until Sept 20.

You have to be prepared to supplement your income with another job, which are far a few between. You have to save your money to get through the lean times.
Don't use words too big for the subject. Don't say 'infinitely' when you mean 'very'; otherwise you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite.[C.S. Lewis]

i was reading Decline and it was saying more of the same improvements that they did this summer. they were saying that the mountain is now focusing on making the trails they have better rather than making new trails.
