How do they work ? I can see how it may put more sq. inches in contact with a smooth icy surface. But how does hiding the tread help in fresh snow ?

The site doesn't say how long it takes to wear them out if you use them on dry roads. It says you have to use them on ice and snow but let's get real here;

It also says you're supposed to take them off when parked overnite!!

I've had snow tires literally freeze to the ground and it takes quite of bit of gas to free my vehicle. I would imagine that wouldn't be very good for fabric material...

Per a conversation with the Bishop Highway patrol they said they are legal in California.

Has anyone had any experience using them in the snow/ice?
