Forum ideas

Postby thrack » Thu Oct 29, 2009 1:17 am

Didn't get a response from the person I sent this to. I guess that's what this forum is for.

"How about a new forum just for multimedia.... videos, pics, etc. I suggested the same over at mthigh's forums awhile back and came up with "sights and sounds" - they went for it and it seems quite popular. Then possibly consolidate Housing and Employees into the same forum?

Also, anyway we can post youtube vids in threads? not just links, but being able to play the actual video within the post."

Cool.

1) I don't know why we would want to make our forum more like the other forum, that would be a step in the wrong direction.

2) Not all employee's need housing, and not all people seeking or offering housing are employees, merging them doesn't make sense.

3) We originally talked about a photo/media type forum but there wasn't much support for it, it's just another place to post the same content that are in other forums. If you want to share something do so in a relevant topic under the appropriate forum, or if you want to share non-related content you can do so in the mill. If anything I would like to find ways to reduce our forums topics not increase them, we aren't a big enough forum to require so many topics.

4) We are not in the foreseeable future going to allow for HTML embeds into the forum. It's to much of a security risk, and would require a lot of extra time to moderate, and regulate. We have enough issues already with spam bots, ect on the forum opening up HTML content will make things worse. Opening up the forums to embedded videos would also require a much larger level of moderation, and we just don't have time to sit threw and preview every video that would be posted to our site (after it's already been posted). The only way we would allow it is if a BBcode tag was created for videos, and even then we would need to think it threw.

5) Our new video gallery allows for user uploadable content, look for this feature to be added soon, and will allow us to preview the videos before they go live.

While we do our best to monitor the forums, and answer whatever questions we can. We don't always have time we are very busy this time of year getting ready for opening. The forums are a fun place for social gathering and exchanging information and for the most part they run themselves. We don't have a full time person answering forum posts, and questions. If you need immediate customer aide please call 1800mammoth.

I personally just pop on here a couple times a week review any messages, moderator notifications, and pm's. So I do apologize if I didn't get back to you within the hour or even a day or so. I receive a ton of suggestions on how to change things around and simply don't have the time to debate every point on every suggestion on how we should "change the forums or the website" many which have already been addressed several times over with the answers available via a search, So I do apologize for us not having the time to indulge requests to modify or remove account, posts, topics, ban, unban, ect., but many of this features are put in place for a reason, and if it is something you should be able to do, you will have the option to do so on your own via available options within the forum software.

Please remember the forums are provided to everybody for free, and while your suggestions and comments are noted please don't expect us to act on every request....we'd never get anything done :)

Yeah, first you guys have to make your software be more fitting of a world class ski resort, and not do inane things like asterick out words like A S S U M E, or just flat out change what you write (like you write "y o u a r e a f r i e n d" and it changes it to I am a friend )

Yeah, it is not like you guys are going to be busy skiing at a world class resort from Nov to July ;)
