I have never seen such a primo year for hikers in the backcountry. One storm since the season began and pretty much perfect every single day right up to today. And I mean perfect! Heaven on Earth.
I encountered some big smiles on the Tyee Tr. today but the best moment was when I came upon a gentleman silently walking along who looked no more than 70. We stopped to chat, and I learned that he is John Wedberg, the father of mountain climber, Kurt. It was great fun talking to him, and I was blown away when he told me he will be 84.
He had even tripped and fallen banging up his knee. It was a nasty cut, but he did not let it stop him from going fishing up the hill. He was so proud of his son having climbed Everest recently and his mountain guide service.
This guy inspired me to keep on truckin' no matter what. Another cool thing about John is that he is a Jazz Show Host on Sierra Wave radio every Sat. night.
