As of right now, the bikers plan to be there. Things could change, though :).

So is the "Broadway rule" not in effect this season? Or is MMSA pretty certain that Broadway will be just about melted away by May 28?

For those of you who remember 2007, MMSA will have to work hard to keep skiable strips open to Main by Memorial weekend.

I will be at Mammoth Saturday 5/26 for sure, probably skiing Sunday also before driving over Tioga in preparation for Tuolumne river rafting Monday/Tuesday.

Wow. TonyC, is this your fair estimation of what it'll look like this year? We have a lot of family/kids coming, and I'm a bit concerned about a lack of beginner terrain for them.

We got about 35 inches more this season than 06/07 and most of it coming later on in the season. I don't think it will be ^ that bad, but it will be close. There will be no true beginner terrain available. Ch 1 being the easiest terrain.

Thanks man. We're coming anyway, but that kinda helps us pack.

That would be my guess also. The opposing view would be that since an early season manmade base is more durable than a natural base Broadway will be more difficult to maintain this year than in 2007, which had a deep freeze in January vs. this year's partial meltdown. It probably turns on how warm the rest of May is more than anything else.

While I am a devotee of Mammoth's very late season, it's not so attractive for low end skiers. Flat terrain gets sticky fast while gravity keeps steep skiing enjoyable much later in the day. Even for intermediates the window of good surface conditions would be very narrow if not for the intensive salting of the groomed runs.

I remember this all too well. This was my first season living in Mammoth, and it pretty much looked like this through mid- December if I remember correctly. That early season truly did suck

If anyone is doing the ski/cycle combo, give me a buzz. I'll have the road bike with me!
