Speaking of... I just got my permit for the HST trail in July, Highanxiety and I will be making the trek to Mt Whitney from Crescent Meadow on the West side, looking forward to my 3rd summit in as many years.

The HST is a great trip. Kaweah Gap is a nice climb to remind you that in the Sierras it's either up or down. That is definitely up! We did a modified last year since we had been up to Whitney a few years in a row. After leaving the Kern Hot Springs instead of turning east at Junction Meadow we headed West up and over Colby Pass to Roaring River and then up Deadman Canyon over and out back to Lodgepole.
Nothing like laying in the Kern and then soaking in a nice hot tub out in the wilderness! Enjoy your trip.

Love the memories...It was nice to soak in the hot tub out in the middle of the Sierra. As I sat there in the tub, feeling every muscle in my body excited about being there, I just couldn't get over where I was. The Kern River is about half way between the west side and the East side. Right in the middle of it all. Just seemed kinda surreal. And with the knowledge that the rest of the trip to Mt Whitney is ALL uphill...But it was a trip I'll NEVER fortget...
