So how do you So Cal people feel about Waterman running over the weekend as a private resort. I wonder if that is a violation of their permit with the forest service? Seems a lot of people got very very mad yesterday. Anyone here a part of that nightmare?

Trails are still fantastic and water is flowing in the SA's. Saw some patches of snow up along Main Divide ~4k'.
I wish it would stay that way. It's as good as it gets.
I used to be with it, then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with, isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me. It'll happen to yoooouuu.

Would have loved to close out June with you on Sun. I`m sure you had a good one. I did not stay in BB sun night for Mon and tue. because I actualy HAD to work today. Thats why i couldn`t do MM/June. I couldnt see myself having the will power to leave june on sunday. I hope to make the fishing opener and do some spring riding at MM. It was good i worked today, made enough to cover all of next years passes. Thats the way I will look at my decision and my logic. Got to keep the balance.
Oh and by the way BB was best ever april conditions. Got 4 days in with everything from (total ice- yikes ) great storm riding, awesome powder, to Bluebird corderoy groomers. Sweet way to close out BB for me. Looking forward to some spring riding and fishing in the Sierras.
Cheers

Little too warm today. Got a nice breeze in the afternoon but it was too late. Best runs of the day for me were Ego Trip around 10 to 11 and The Wall around noon to 1:30. By then, I think Chair 6 runs were the only ones that didn't want to give you a big hug (sticky). I missed prime time for my cherished 7 and 10 runs, but it was a small window today.

SoCal conditions thread is dead, so ...

Image

Wild snow at Snow Summit on Monday! East Why was left ungroomed. Probably too soon after fresh for true moguls to form, but still fun. There was a narrow path down the middle that appeared to be groomed, leaving a mini-mini pipe-like feel.

So how do you So Cal people feel about Waterman running over the weekend as a private resort. I wonder if that is a violation of their permit with the forest service? Seems a lot of people got very very mad yesterday. Anyone here a part of that nightmare?

They have been doing that for years. If they run as a private resort I think they don't need to have the certifications.

I feel bad for them not opening this year (probably more for me) but they are not the swiftest operators anyway.

So, can I vent a little?

Last year my son and I took a trip up the 2 after Waterman said they were closed for the season. We wanted to get some more of that great corn they have in in San Gabriels. Anyway, we drive up and when we get to Waterman we see a few cars. Then we see a few boarders coming down the face and #2. Chair 1 was running but the gate was closed. I ran up to the operator (who lives there) and asked if we could hitch a ride since we were going to hike anyway. He said to hurry up. We put our stuff on real quick and were on Chair 1 in not time high fiving all the way. When we hit the crest we see a few people and then when we get to the top they see 2 more people coming up. When we get to the top all we get is "who are you?" and I explained that so and so said we could hitch a ride. They did not seem happy.

Then as we get off he says that the best snow is that way pointing us towards the face, etc. They did not in anyway want us up there where they most likely were going to run Chairs 2 &3 for the rest of the afternoon. Okay, it's their resort and if they feel the coverage isn't good enough for the paying customers that's a decision I can respect. We then went up the highway and had fun at Krakta for a bit.

What struck me as funny is when he said "who are you?'. Well, sir, I have skied your resort almost every weekend it has been open since you bought it (thank you for saving it). I have a season pass each year they were offered. I basically skied your kid down the mountain one day because he was crying and just froze on the face. I bring a lot of friends up to show them the joys of Mt. Waterman and still they say "who are you?" Guess I'm not in the club.

It still is the best skiing in So. Cal. despite those guys.

I am glad I went up to Mammoth last weekend because I probably would have driven up to the mountain on Saturday just out of curiosity, as I did the week before, to see if they were operating. I would have been real bummed to see people up there. I am sure it would have been fun but Mammoth had the goods anyway.

How is that for an answer Snowman? Yes, I would be highly irritated to see them operating, but, it is their resort and I would probably do the same.

Hmmm. *I'm not sure I agree with you a hundred percent on your police work, there*, Rotten.

I found it a bit odd when Waterman didn't bother to update the site after the previous snowfall, even if just to say, "Sorry, too little too late."

* Fargo reference. Just go with it.
