Goodbye, CA!

Postby Snowave » Fri Apr 06, 2012 10:28 am

And hello Washington. :)

Yes, many of you who are friends with me on FB already know, but thought I'd mention it here since not everyone is a FB geek, and I still consider alot of others here my friends.

I got a new job in Leavenworth, Washington (East slope of the Cascades, about 2.5 hrs east of Seattle) working for the USFS. I start May 7th, so we'll be moving in less than 2 weeks. :o Needless to say, It's a whirlwind for sure around the house right now. We went up there a couple weeks ago and found an amazing house on the Wenatchee River where we'll live. It's about 20 minutes north of Leavenworth in the tiny "town" of Plain. There is also a guest cabin, so I will begin taking reservations soon. :P

There are SO many recreational opportunities in that area, it has me dizzy. I may actually learn how to fish now. I can't wait to get out there and play! And Leavenworth has SO many good places to eat... and they're not all Bavarian/German.. a sushi place, brewery, winery and starbucks are really all I need, and it has all, plus much more. :) No In N Out though... :( Wenatchee is about an hour away, and has a Costco, Lowes, and airport, and all the other "big city" things.

It's been a crazy 14 yrs I've spent in socal, and going to Mammoth. I will miss Mammoth alot... I consider it to be the best ski area I've ever been to... and that says alot. I will also miss that place that sux. However, I will be excited to be living 30 min from Stevens Pass (although I just can't get away from that MH CEO  )... and within 5 hrs of probably a dozen or more other ski areas. Will I miss socal? Sure... a few things ;) , it is an amazing place, but it's never really been for me.

I will miss meeting up with many of you down here (and of course, in Mammoth too), even though it didn't happen that often.... MSP and Skipunk for... just about everything at one time or another.... Cheaps for sushi, skiing or meteor watching, Tkshird for stormchasing and pizza, MtnNut for ski trips, SD for skiing, SL and SG for sleepovers and peeing on manzanita, Stephen for a MH powder day.. P-ho for frappucino and bartender flirting.. oh, and skiing, and many others that have stopped by my work from time to time, and of course, the Camparoo's where everything and everyone gets fuzzy.

It's going to be tough to not start a WA Stormsss thread... but I know I'd probably be the only one posting in it. :?

I'll still be around here of course, as I have made so many friends over the years. But it will be weird being on here and living 1000 miles away.

That's all for now!

Make sure you stop by Three Fingered Jacks in Winthrop. Oldest legal saloon in Washington. And check out North Cascades National Park. It doesn't suck.

R6! I went to the academy with some OWF folks, and worked with some on the Wallow fire. Good people.

So happy for you both, and since I practically only know you in my "virtual" world, I think I'll see you as much as I did when you were living in socal. Maybe now when we end up at a U2 concert we'll actually have a beer together.....

Good luck Snowave. I'll miss you. Like I've said before, you are like the son I never wanted ;) Your new place is one of the nicest cabins ( Log Mansion ) I have ever seen. If I pictured my dream home it would look just like that.
I hope the opportunity to come visit arises in the near future. I bet Debi loves it also. All the best to both of you. :)

I am very happy for you and know you will do well there. It is a great opportunity for a guy who paid his dues on the toughest forests in the land. If it turns out that you like it, you can live there forever and come back to Mammoth to visit.

That was a pretty good move you were able to make to transfer in tough times.

Awesome Sno. That place looks almost as beautiful as June Lake. J/K, you two are going to love it.

Maybe this summer SkiPunk and I can come up and we can do some salmon fishing on the Columbia River and some trout fishing on Icicle Creek. Or you can show us the secret spots you have found. It sure would be fun to catch a 15lb salmon.
