I wonder if you would write the code that anyone who wanted to register as a new member after 1:00 am, would be blocked or have to wait to be screened, similar to what you coded in for housing? The current situation leaves us open for anything.

Or just make me a mod and I'll delete that spam as fast as they post it!

No code like that that I know of.

Right now I'm working on collecting their emails and blocking the @email address so they can't keep creating accounts.

I delete them as quickly as possible but everyday there are new ones. Just be patient and report them so I see them immediately.

Spammers just change up their emails almost hourly...

They rewrote code in the housing thread that screens the post; I was wondering can't they just copy the same code to the forums so these spammers can't get in? Thanks Shay.

The most aggressive way would be to make it so every account has to be approved by a mod. Which if this was my full time job to moderate the forums, I'd probably do. But I have a full time job and keep busy doing my job so giving me more work doing that is not something I would choose.

I'll keep deleting them as they come but I can tell you the forums aren't a priority over my other work so sometimes it means a couple hours till I get to something.

Screen posts? You gotta be kidding me. So when you post something you have to wait an hour(s) for a moderator to log in, read your post and then approve it? Can you imagine the disconjointed discussions in the threads? That's never going to work.

The only way is to screen new members, and even then how do you know if that person is a spammer or not?

You'd build a code into the forums that would automatically screen any message that's posted and check for telltale signs of spamming. Nobody actually has to log on and read it.

That is what they do for the housing forum. They could modify the code and apply it to new members. I'm just saying, if they can worm their way into the forums they can worm their way into anything. Collecting emails is a waste of time. The emails are sytematically developed and belong to no one. If you go on to any of the free lane websites, you see people are paid to program into forums in mass.

Are you sure they just aren't "approving" posts in the housing forum? According to Shay, she says there is no such "code".

SDP is right. There is no code for the housing forum, every post has to be looked at and approved by a moderator. It's time-consuming already.

Not that we dont think you deserve your time off, but maybe 72 hours of not monitoring the board is too long in light of the spammers? Can somebody look in briefly at night?
