I considered starting this thread, but this low seems kinds different since I think most of the moisture it's getting is monsoonal in origin.

There's no front with it.

In the long range, tonight's GFS keeps dropping lows down the coast. Nothing too impressive moisture-wise, but the coldest of these could bring snow to Main Lodge.

Still a bunch of snow left over from last season. Nice contrast.

Some signs of a great winter ahead..

1. Big Pine Cones on the Fir Trees and now

2. September snow on Bloodys

In the past that has always meant a big winter on the way...

September is looking dry on the GFS. The Pacific GFS view is showing Asian tropical storms becoming monster lows in the GOA but downstream that lends to ridging over the West and troughing over the NE. The ridging over us seems to be why we are getting the monsoonal flow at times underneath it.

^ Good we need a couple more months of dry weather, before winter hits!

At the very very very end of the 16 day GFS forecast there is an impressive storm that might break down the ridge.

We're definitely starting to see the model inconsistencies so common in the fall. Last night's run had cutoff lows dropping down the coast all month long.

Tonight's GFS is merciless for BC, with the jet bringing several ex tropical storms over from Asia and pounding the coast with rain. http://www.ggweather.com/loops/gfs_00z_sfcnpac.shtml

Since there isn't a Sept SoCal thread I figured I'd put this here.... Today San Diego tied the record for the lowest max temp for September with a high of 66. I'm a native San Diegan and I can't remember ever having June Gloom in September like this. Of course I had never seen a summer like '10 either.
