I have been using the variant w/brim since it was released paired with the Smith I/O Goggles. Compatibility between the two is perfect, complete visibility without obstruction is most important. The I/O's offer just that. I just ordered another variant but I got it without the brim. The brim does offer protection from branches and things while skiing the trees which is nice, it also helps on those plentiful sunny california days...But I find it obtrusive to my vision while in a low stance looking up, especially while tucking. So it depends on on skiing preference visibility or a touch of added protection. Since I have both i have options now, but I say no brim. Oh also it is really not easy to put your goggles up on the helmet. And if you do, at least for me it stretched the bottom edge of the goggle strap more than the top a little annoying. I hope that helps.
