No pkerr, what you did with Eric was safe. He wouldn't have taken you out there is it wasn't safe. It hadn't snowed that much and if you check the avalanche centers web page for that day you will see that danger was "low". You weren't anywhere with a pitch over 35 degrees anyway. That's side country anyways, it not really back country, people are there on a daily basis after a little snowfall.

I was ducking the ropes and riding back to the cabin on many days like you had that day.

seriously. This was a great little TR, don't let the know it alls who really know nothing of the day, the terrain, the people the snowpack or the weather convince you otherwise. There's a reason there are old growth, unflagged trees in those shots....because it DOESN'T slide!

The only reason he made you go one at a time is because it's the only terrain in all your pics that's technically "steep enough to slide", but the evidence presented is that it never does. Your Ski Patroller knew this, and is to be commended for taking the extra step of asking you to ski one at a time to protect you against the INFINTESIMAL chance that it "could" slide.

Don't listen to a couple unqualified opinions on the internet when you literally had an expert with you who deemed it safe. I'm glad you shared this TR, and I'm impressed with the personal touch of Ski Patrol to take care of you back there!

edit: Please don't prove anything for my sake. Especially since your "snowcave" question indicates that one of us has been out there and the other hasn't.

They were safe out there that day....and anybody preaching something different is just being a hater.

Have fun this weekend in the "dry slidy" stuff! I know I will!

Thanks for the stoke Pkerr!

Plus, it didn't hurt the odds that pkerr is a ski instructor at his local ski resort, Hidden Valley, near St. Louis, MO. :!:

Fair enough 0li...for argument's sake, I probably should have worded it differently than "doesn't slide" Cheers and +vibes...ask your friend about the "snow cave" but show him or her the photo too. :-)

What does being a ski instructor have to do with proper BC protocol? Being PSIA certified does not help you not die in the BC or side country. A lot of the spew in this thread is exactly what gets people into trouble, "oh there was an expert on hand," "oh that slope never slides" etc. The kind of stuff that makes people justify being in a place they shouldn't have been without the proper equipment and knowledge. It's awesome that Eric took you out there and you had a good time, but it still is irresponsible to lead a group of visitors out of bounds without the proper equipment.

You forgot to thank Pkerr for the stoke...maybe you should start your own thread for banging your gavel.

I stand by what I said Pkerr...for whatever reason these forums are filled with people who'd rather be judgemental then share stoke.

It's laughable how many of these people who trust ski patrollers to keep the in-bounds terrain safe for them would second guess that same patrollers judgement on a low danger avi day in low danger terrain just outside the ropes.

I never said anything about the inbounds being perfectly safe, people die inbounds in avies as well. For the record I ski with a beacon in-bounds as well as when I travel in the BC. It's not Disneyland out there.
