Get cultured in the Art Park

Postby Shay » Mon Dec 13, 2010 11:11 am

Just wanted to give a heads up on Mammoth's newest park addition, the Art Park. It'll be located on Round Robin run, the first art park will feature art collab from AR4T and JLA paying tribute to Jeff Anderson. December 18th is the on-hill opening at noon, so come check it out!

Here's the article we sent out to media with more information:

Imagine finding yourself in an art gallery on the snow with art that you not only touch, but you can ride on! Introducing Mammoth’s new Art Park. The first of three Art Parks debuts on December 18, 2010 and will be stocked with features designed in collaboration with AR4T and the JLA Project.

No resort has ever done something like this before. For the first time ever, skiers and snowboarders can get their culture on the slopes. These artist -created jib-able features built from snow and steel will be open to the public for viewing or your jibbing pleasure. Putting “fun” in form and function? Yeah. It’s a whole new way to look at art in the park.

Art Park will be located on Mammoth’s Round Robin run near Canyon Lodge. Whether it’s a quick lap to scope the artwork or spending a day stomping your tricks – there’s something for everyone in the Art Park. The first Art Park will pay tribute to Mammoth’s finest son, artist and pro snowboarder, Jeff Anderson, who passed away in 2003. Jeff Anderson left his mark on the snowboarding community and the artwork from I AM SNOWBOARDING will help celebrate his life through art.

“Snowboarding has always been about creativity - finding your own line. Art is the exact same. That's why cultures like snowboarding, skateboarding and art have always gone hand in hand. The great part about the Art Park is that there are no rules; we can get as creative as we like. The artists can go nuts, Dustin - the person who makes the rails come to life and who is an amazing artist himself - can push the limits, and hopefully the folks who come through the park will have fun and go home inspired, feeling a part of the whole experience" said Torrey Cook, AR4T’s curator.

To celebrate the opening of the Mammoth Art Park, come to the pre-party at Hyde Lounge in the Village at Mammoth on Friday, December 17th from 10pm to close with collaborative art pieces from the I AM SNOWBOARDING exhibit and a DJ spinning into the night. Then head to the Mammoth’s Round Robin run on Saturday, December 18 for the on-hill opening party at noon with featured artists and athletes.

Great concept. If it takes off, I humbly recommend a Zoo Park for your next venture.
