parks and pipe camp - am I too old?

Postby calisnow » Wed Apr 07, 2010 9:09 pm

So at age 32 I have (thankfully) no injuries. While I grew up skiing hard I did not grow up in the park. The parks and pipe camp is this coming weekend and I'm considering it.

To anyone who has taken it - is it an appropriate place for someone COMPLETELY new to parks and pipes, and to someone older than 30? I want to learn how to have a little safe fun in the air, but I don't want to be that lame guy who slows down the group. Also don't want to end up in the hospital. I'm in decent shape but I'm not a hardcore athlete.

I've done great in the regular advanced camps, but this is something completely new. I'm willing to rent some freeride/park skis for the weekend as well.

You never get hurt in the air...

Sounds like a great venue regardless of age for anyone interested in working on their aerials.

My only suggestion would be to stretch and exercise regularly, this will help keep you from becoming injured and decrease recovery time...we're no spring chickens anymore :muscle:

I'm 31 goin on 32 in June I dabble in the park and used to ride South all the time until my riding buddy stopped riding. My advice: Embrace the speed and "Clear the knuckle, or you gonna buckle" :P

You may want to get a lesson with an instructor who specializes in free-riding before you go into a group camp. Otherwise I would say call ahead to the people running the camps and feel it out with them. They will let you know if it would be appropriate or not. :)

There is a very good park and pipe instructor from Australia. His name is Andy. He has red hair and he beats the park (on skis) like no bodies business. I know he is not out of Main lodge so it is either Litle Eagle or Canyon.

I'm booking a private with my 7 yo next week to learn the park. He drags me to Forest Train all day and I know I could do better.
