topsheet material for a box?

To anyone who works at the mountain or knows about this, what topsheet material is cheap and effective for a box jib? Currently making one for use after a day on the mountain, but need something fairly inexpensive and durable.

what is used on the ones in the parks? thanks

Bear Mountain uses Lexan. im pretty sure all other resorts use it too. It is very expensive so maybe not an option for you. Consider finding a cheaper plastic on various sites found through google.

darn... i was hoping not to have to order it. i need like 2x10 ft. so im sure shipping will be expensive. ill head to the good old do-it center and see if i can find anything.

Since that's your requirement, I recommend making the topsheet outta p-tex and just attach the Lexan to your snowboard bases. Lemme know how it goes cuz my latest hare-brained scheme is to rubberize all the freeways so we can drive around on cement tires that'll last forever.

My old jib box was made out of PVC pipe which we put inside a box made from scrap wood from pallets.

I have no idea if this would work... but make it out of metal? I mean rails are made out of metal, but of course or only riding on a little bit of that. Just an idea...

What i used for my box at my house is poly ethylene. Its like the white plastic they use at the parks. Im not sure if its the same stuff but it works really well. If you get it make sure that it is more than 1/32 of an inch thick or else when you drill it it will be unevenly raised from the screw.

I would recommend using some Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethelene (UHMW) sheeting. You can buy sheets of this through McMaster Carr (www.mcmaster.com). The prices vary based on what you're looking for. The static dissipative is the cheapest and probably best suited for a jib box.

the pro's use HDPE (high density Poly Ethlene). Do a google search to find a nearby retailer. I'd recommend using 1/4" or 3/8" and countersinking your hardware. My brother built a couple of boxes last season and he got the material for like $80 i think down here in SoCal.Maybe see if the mtn will sell you some scrap. get a couple different colors and make a collage maybe.

HDPE all the way. Ive heard of using Lexan. possibly Trex as well
