THE MAMMOTH LAKES FOREST SERVICE RANGER STATION HAS REPORTED 138
INCHES OF SNOW DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER WHICH SHATTERS THE
PREVIOUS RECORD OF 87 INCHES SET BACK IN 2002. THE AVERAGE
SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH OF DECEMBER IS 38.6 INCHES. RECORDS HAVE
BEEN KEPT AT THIS STATION FOR 17 YEARS.

AN UNOFFICIAL RECORD HAS ALSO BEEN REPORTED AT MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN
WHICH HAS HAD 208 INCHES THIS MONTH. THE AVERAGE FOR DECEMBER IS
63.4 INCHES WITH THE PREVIOUS RECORD 139.8 INCHES IN 1971. RECORDS
HAVE BEEN KEPT AT THIS STATION FOR 41 YEARS.

I guess we can put this thread to bed now but what a month it's been for weather. This is the kind of month that creates weather geeks. It was full of anticipation and even some disbelief at initial forecasts and then we got to sit back and watch the forecasts verify and the totals increase to amazing heights.

I'm really looking forward to the next couple of months to see if this pattern continues or if we revert to a more typical La Niña type pattern with an early spring. Personally I'm thinking it going to stay COLD, really COLD, and wet for at least 3 more months. Spring may come early but it'll only be after a wild and crazy winter for most of the US and Europe.

Long live the king of snow months!
It has to snow again eventually...right???

I do a cheaper version. I go on a hike. At lunch I lay down on a nice flat rock in the sun for a nap.
