Postby noworkski » Tue Nov 25, 2008 5:45 pm

I am leaving the LA area around 6 pm. What say you?

Some of you will know how to respond!

>chuckle< :)

funny how things happen --

went ta git my eyes checked t-day -- drivin my "undercover" car -- on the way back, happened on a large trailer on the RS beside the I-8 WB -- no TOW vehicle w it but a woman and child standin by it -- double axle trailer -- one wheel missin -- figured when the TOW vehicle got back w the new tire they'd gone for they was gonna need some help -- so -- went home and got *THE* SAR rig and returned jist as the fella got there as well and was beginnin to DIG beneath the hangin axle with his lug wrench to be able to put the wheel back on -- enterprisin fella -- no jack --

anyways -- MY jack made the job a leetil easier -- ;)

continued on a bit --

nixt -- I see from the other side of the freeway -- a white Crown Vic on the RS w the trunk open and a fella walkin away from it -- looks like he may be walkin for help so I go around @ the next crossover and come back and drop in behind -- and pull a couple of blasts on my air horns to git him to come back -- OOPS  -- it's a "stealth" CHP cruiser and the OFFICER is awalkin on the RS to pick up a piece of possible crash causin debris he'd spotted on the #5 lane fog line -- luckily he's a "friendly"

finally -- ANOTHER trailer pullin rig on the RS headed EB this time -- fella tryin to repair a damaged roll-out awning support that was aswingin in the wind from the side of his trailer narrowly missin vehicles beside him & makin em swerve --he's workin on some bolts w a crecent wrench so I hand him a socket set that makes short shift of the repair and we both roll outta there.

afternoon mail comes and my mailman hands me a large manila envelope w a return address of my local state assemblyman onit -- :?

Ho Lee Chit-- :wasntme:

theres a California Legislature Assembly -- Certificate of Recognition w my name onit init

nice surprise 8-)

anyways -- hadta put my glasses on to read it -- arms aren't loooong enuf fer readin anymore ;) :(

Good question. I always carry my cables . . . but since I bought them I have never used them. The Highway crew has always waved the old 4WD Suburban through if they stick their head in and see the 4WD engaged. I don't every drive in a blizzard if I can help it. Everybody needs chains when it's icy though- zero traction even with 4WD.

So your answer is: come prepared with chains or cables and some gloves. Practice putting them on at home so you are not out there in the middle of a storm reading the instructions. ;) Throw in a shovel, flashlight, some blankets, water and some food if you plan to drive in winter weather. You never know when you have to spend the night on the road. My sister spent six hours stuck on a stretch of Highway 80 a few years back. They completely closed the roads up to Tahoe and no one was moving for all that time. Some emergency supplies would have come in handy.

For your Information. If your stopped by the Mounties during a chain required situation, you must have chains in your possession, even with 4WD during an R1. They will site you! :?: :?:
