Compare this winter

Postby Thepilotone15 » Tue Nov 25, 2008 4:15 pm

So I'm new to Mammoth, I was wondering how does this winter rate so far? It it one of the driest? hottest? what can I expect from a winter that starts like this? When will I see the most snow? Also for the seasoned Mammoth visitors, would you say that winter comes a bit earlier every year now?

I don't remember what time Bear opened last season, but I could have sworn that it was already open this time last season. For those who believe in Global Warming, how far off do you think we are from a snow free California?

Me: Wow it snowed 4 feet in Mammoth today!!!

We can't rate it because it isn't winter yet....everythnig up until now has been at or above normal for fall.

Also, there is no way that Big Bear was open at this time last year. It is still November, and thus, VERY early. What we have seen so far does not necessarily indicate a good or bad winter.

That sounds good thats its above norm. My mistake on the winter thing  , I mean just the season in general so far.

There usually is no season (to speak of) at this point, so obviously that is good. As far as it being a predictor of what happens in January, who knows.

There will always be snow in California; the average temperature would have to go up 20 degrees for there to be no snow in the Sierras. The amount of rain storms may increase in the future, as opposed to snow storms, but there's no way there won't be snow.

FYI, and just for the record... last year, Thanksgiving fell on the 22nd of November. if memory serves me, a cold Santa Ana event began on that Thursday, and I believe several So Cali areas opened on Saturday, the 24th. today is the 25th...

That's how I make all my decisions. :P
