2 snow tires enough?

Postby SacTheRipper » Tue Nov 11, 2008 5:48 pm

I have a front wheel drive volvo s70 that used to have 4 snow tires on it until I hit a ditch going 40 and shredded one of them. Nobody near SF stocks any winter tires and I'm feeling particularly cheap lately ( and I'm leaving in 2 days) so does anyone know if covering the drive wheels will be good enough for an R1 road? I figure I'll need chains for R2 anyway...

Legally, yes:

R1: Chains, traction devices or snow tires are required on the drive axle of all vehicles except four wheel/ all wheel drive vehicles.

The tires on the drive axle must be rated m+s

Well then...legally I'll see you guys on Thursday where we'll see how well 4,000 lbs of Swedish steel really handles in the snow. Thanks for the quick reply.

Right but I'm moving up for the Winter which (we can only pray) will snow another several hundred inches

The forecast highs for 9000 feet for your time period range from 48 - 59 degrees.

Edit: my bad!
