January Cold Temperature Thread

Postby MountainNut » Sun Jan 13, 2013 9:29 am

Anything to do with this recent cold spell. This morning I see it was -5 in Big Bear, 25F in Riverside, 26F in Camp Pendleton, 32F in Oceanside, 21F at (Rolen's)Temecula Creek (Temecula), and -38F at West Yellowstone. Was 25F at my place.

Anyone else see record lows or unusually cold temperatures?

This cold doesn't begin to compare to the Feb 2006 SoCal temps tho..

Hope my friend's orange and lemon trees made it thru okay (w/plastic covers).

8F at Baldy Notch the other evening, the next morning 26F in Upland, had to share my ice scraper with the good neighbors to get frozen dew off of their windshields at 6:30am.

Not that bad this early morning. Light wind was keeping it rather mild at 40 degrees @ 6:30. Not as cold as previous days. Nice day to get the smoker going..
Noticed -22 at TUOLUMNE MEADOWS, CA
Also the Sierra Valley (north of Truckee)was in the minus 20's and minus teens.

This is great for a quick overview

39 at the beach in Huntington Beach. Made it hard to get from the car into the water. The water felt like a bathtub, 55 degrees.

My you-know-what was like a scared turtle!!

Just got back from Hamilton, Montana. We had an overnight low of -1 the morning we left (Saturday), which made packing the car quite the experience. Coldest temp was around -20 in the Big Hole Valley, Montana. It first got above freezing just south of Baker, CA, and we didn't hit 40 degrees until we were over the Cajon Pass. Definitely the most consistently cold drive I've ever experienced.
