There's supposed to be another warm storm coming in Tues. but it wont have the monstrous precip. forecast like this weekend. So I am also wondering if the snow that does fall at the end of this storm series gets melted midweek.

However the GFS had a really good cold snowmaker in about 11 days which looked very exciting. So much excitement.

I bailed out at 1 AM Friday to beat what looked like at that time was going to be a road-closing storm. I shouldn't have worried - a mile below the town the roads were clear, although the wind was impressive all the way down.

When I stopped at Division Creek for a nap, my outdoor thermometer was reading 65F, down to about 55 after a few hours.

After reading many of the NWS reports for Reno south to Mammoth, it looks like Sunday is really going to be
one helluva storm. One report mentioned .5 inches of rain per hour over a period of 12 hours with 70MPH winds. Geez! That is serious. With snow levels expected to be at 10,000 ft in some areas, flooding is almost a certainty.

I am anxious to read Howard's updated report once it is posted.


I posted a small bit on info on the possibility/certainty of the Truckee river going several feet over flood stage.

SERIES MOVE INTO THE WEST COAST. 700MB WINDS INCREASE TO OVER 80
KTS EARLY SUNDAY MORNING, WITH SURFACE WINDS INCREASING
DRAMATICALLY. AN IMPRESSIVE DOWNSLOPE WIND SIGNATURE SETS UP ALONG
THE SIERRA FRONT WITH WIDESPREAD GUSTS ALONG THE HIGHWAY 395
CORRIDOR FROM RENO TO MAMMOTH LAKES TO 70 MPH. WIND PRONE AREAS
ARE EXPECTED TO HIT OVER 90 MPH, WITH SIERRA RIDGE GUSTS UP TO 140
MPH. WINDS OF THIS MAGNITUDE MAY PRODUCE WIDESPREAD WIND DAMAGE
ACROSS THE AREA. DAMAGE TO TREES, POWER LINES, AND PROPERTY WILL
BE POSSIBLE.
