I was just down south for the first time this past weekend.. I called in a spotter report to LOX and reported a tornado in Lancaster just for kicks.

Snowing again here ... Another 5-10" thru tomorrow. Made it home to power on, but trees are still coming down everywhere.

Yeah.. the porcupine incident sucked... I was about 90 minutes from a vet... an hour back on a dirt road, then a mile further back on closed dirt road hiking... The dogs were not happy. However, I set a new speed record on that road getting back to town, and made it in just under an hour. They spent the night at the vet.. between the 2 of them, about 200 quills had to be removed.

Oh how I miss the snowplayers and MH.. NOT. Heard they closed Jackson Lake because of people going on thin ice again.

MtnNut... That picture of the Table Mtn Fire is the southeast side of the East Slopes.. so it's on the Ellensburg/Yakima side, and the edge of the Columbia River Basin (the drier side). however, it was still very dry... 3 months with no rain is not normal up here.

WA is great, but MT is still on the back burner for the future. Ya never know.

Montana, huh? My buddy is driving home from there today (Kalismell) and keeps sending me texts and cam-fotos of his latest tour up there. He's in SLC right now and wants to turn around and head back to the Flathead Valley and GNP. I came real close to heading up there myself this last holiday period but had obligations down here for that time-frame.

Every single person I know that has gone from cali to WA has been dismayed by all the cloudiness and monotony of overcast skies. Some even returned to CA due to it!

It isn't so much all the rain that gets to some folks, but the lack of sunshine and all the cloudcover.

Keep posting all the photos of your area. Love it!

I'm trying to talk a friend into carpooling up to Wenatchee to see his nephew now living at a family-house there.

yeah, I wouldn't put any money on me coming back to CA.. but understand what you mean, fer sure. The clouds here are pretty relentless for a few months in winter (on the east side at least), and it has gotten to me.. not in a depression way, but it makes me a little clausterphobic at times when the clouds are low and you can't see the mtns, etc... and the fact that you can seriously go weeks without seeing 1 peek of sunshine. Not exaggerating.

Anyway, sun is out today after a couple inches of snow this weekend... going to do some snowshoeing I think. Then, another storm comes in tonight with 4-8" here.. Smoking a turkey today as well.

If you're ever up this way, you have a place to stay. Just bring some good beer.. the PACNW is all about IPA's which I don't like.

You now have your Wenatchee Wild, yer close to Seattle and all the National Parks, have the (lush) woods, wildlife/porcupines, mostly low-key people, and the same sort of low-key driving environment/commute. Big improvement over the SoCal craziness and stress.

My friend's sister and husband own a place in Wenatchee now (family death), but her son lives there. I keep trying to get him to go see his nephew there and see alot of the rest of Washington and also Northern Idaho. Maybe in the Springtime ...

And another friend is moving back to Idaho in 2 weeks. Poor guy is seriously sick of California. A small part of that is his own fault, tho..

Thanks for the offer on the river place ... I can't get into IPAs either. I tried, but they just aren't my taste in ales, I guess. Anything but IPAs, actually (well except Bud, that is )..

That's what would do it for me -- persistent cloud cover. Love rain, but think I'd look at a place like Bend, where it only precipitates like 15-20" a year, right? Or places in Bay Area where it at least burns off midday usually. I hear IPA is the only style you can get there. Try Full Sail. Its India is rather wimpy. At least you are not too close to the PDX/Sea hipsters, the apparent scourge of the planet.
