Sno's WY thread (wait, what happened to WA?!).

It rained last night, and the river is way up! Although, most of the rise is due to snowmelt the last week. It got to 80 here the other day. Today it is 44, and it's supposed to stay cool all week... so the snowmelt should decrease and the river will go down. Good thing is, the river has only gotton over the bank into the back yard (1st picture) 1 time in 27 yrs here..

you can fish yr round up here in many areas, but I'm not sure about all the rivers.

Regarding the Wentachee in our back yard, unfortunately... this is a "protected" stretch of the river for Steelhead, so no fishing out my back door. There is talk of lifting the closure, but not sure how reliable that is.


On a good note, There are 2 lakes 5 miles up the road, several others you can easily hike to, and I have found several rivers/streams in the area that you CAN fish, so I will just have to work a little harder than going 200 ft out the back door.

Yes, there are going to be tons of mosquitoes.. however, our next door neighbor has his commercial pesticide license, and is able to acquire and disperse non-toxic, mostly natural mosquito larvae pesticide. He does it for all the neighbors in the area (about 6).. They've been doing it for 3 yrs, and they all say it has cut down on the mosquito population by about half.
So instead of 50 million mosquitoes, we'll have 25 million.

Also, they say most of them are gone by mid July, so it's really only 2-3 months of torture.

yes, late night drunk fishing is allowed on the Wenatchee.

I did find out some bad news today...but also some more good, great and more great.

There are more rivers in this area that are closed to fishing than I thought. Most tributaries that flow into the Wenatchee, then Columbia are protected for the f'ing Steelhead. The good news is, I spent an hour or so looking over a topo of the area, and there are still quite a few rivers and streams (including the ones closed, but the access to fishing in those is just further away from the mouth)... so that's good news.

The other news which is actually good, WA has state liquor stores.. yes, kinda like Utah.. but less strict. The good news is, last fall the voters basically booted out the state from the booze business, and starting June 1 Hard liquor will be available at most stores... this legislation was largely funded by Costco... go figure. I love Costco! Beer and wine are available everywhere though anyway.

Our car insurance is going to drop by almost $500 year.

Electricity is the LOWEST in the entire country for 23 yrs, thanks to hydro-electric power.

so nowhere's perfect... but I still think this is an amazing place.

I keep telling people about 2NA's story with the carbon dioxide pipe attracting the buggers. I cant figure out why no one can devise some sort of product from that idea.
