I used to be with it, then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with, isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me. It'll happen to yoooouuu.

supposed to rain next week... it's been sunny and warm (near 90 last weekend!) the last week and a half, so I'm looking forward to it.

Merced's new best friend's are the back deck looking out at the river, and the huge osprey that lives in a tree with it's chicks in the back yard. :(

Thanks for the nice words, guys.. as I said.. We love this place, and I really like my new job and co-workers.They have a river rafting trip planned, a inter-forest BBQ at Stevens Pass next week, and a softball team.... it's an ENTIRELY different USFS up here. :x

Right on. I thought those WA cats were simply a different type of unfriendly than SoCal. Darn stereotypes!!!

Edit: Great pics, TC. (Does anyone use that?) How close did the dogs get to that rattler?

Interesting in that is probably the biggest surprise. I expected people here to be a little bit offset by our coming from California, but they're either putting up a good front or just being really genuine, as people are extremely friendly and welcoming. No outward prejudice whatsoever. I'm finding alot of people here have some ties to CA at some point, but most were there 20+ yrs ago during the 'good ole days' as they call it.

the pups were very close to the snakes... about 3 ft before we saw/heard it and yanked them back. They were on leashes that day, thankfully. They are all going in for their rattlesnake vaccine next week.

Did a little hike today to a place up the road called Hidden Lake. Rumor has it there are a bunch of small, but big fighter brook trout in there. Next time I'll bring the stick...

Beautiful rainy day today, with some cool valley fog lines... It was starting to get a little dry out there after 2 weeks of sun. Snow possible tomorrow above 4k. Met some people today that are going glacier skiing this weekend in the Enchantments (popular wilderness area in my district that has some similarities to the high Sierra).

I had a report today at work of an "almost" mountain goat attack over the weekend. That is a first for me. I almost started laughing, just because it's so far of a stretch from what I'm used to.. but it can be very serious. Someone died last year in the Olympic's from being gorded by a MG.

Did Bigfoot finally get a hold of Snowave and drag him off somewhere deep into the Cascade backcountry? Female Bigfoot? :P

Or do ya have to check in with his Facebook acct every day?

Yeah, I just got loose from Bigfoot's cave. He captured me in July, and has been holding me hostage ever since. no internet in Bigfoot cave. Of course, I was fed bacon 3 times a day, so in the end, I got kicked out of the cave. :?

Things have been pretty good up here. It was a nice summer warm and dry, once we got into July. Did a decent amount of hiking, floating on the river...gardening... smoking meat. saw the northern lights 4 times! The pups are having a blast,too.. except the day the found a porcupine.

Then, mid September came.. a big dry lightning storm came thru and started about 2,000 wildfires across the area (seriously). They burned until late October, and the smoke was horrible every day.

Image

Then it started to rain... and snow. It hasn't stopped since it started (seriously). I get that it rains and snow alot in WA, but it's not supposed to be quite this continuous and heavy on the east side of the Cascades. 30 yr residents have said they've never seen such extremes as this year (87 days without rain) than 2 months+ of almost nothing but rain and snow.

This week we had a 3 ft snowstorm that was localized in our area just north of Leavenworth. A unique weather event called the Puget Sound Convergence Zone set up and just DUMPED over about 15 mile wide band. Anyway, there are thousands of trees down and power has been out for a week.. They are used to snow in this area (120+ inches avg in the valley) but for some reason, the trees didn't like it all at once I guess.

Road to my house...

They got power back on for 12 hrs, then we got another foot of snow and more trees came down again. It's snowing again today. Who'd ever think I'd be complaining about it the snow? :o 30 yr locals have never seen anything like it. Oddly, the snow was not THAT heavy... but we don't get wind up here at all during storms (at least the valley I live in). We are staying in Wenatchee at a hotel with my mom and sis, who are up here from Socal for 3 weeks. We have a generator, but mom and sis aren't into roughing it with the bathroom/shower issue (electric pump). Sounds like we might have just gotten power back, but 2 more trees down across driveway that will need to be cut up.

Here's some more pics of the damage around my house/area from Monday:

Here's a video of a tree coming down onto more power lines some crews captured: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdhcJwqm ... e=youtu.be

This fall has been fun. We went to Idaho and Montana a couple times... visiting hot springs and breweries. Went to Mt. Rainier and Olympic NP's.. both are really awesome.

I got a weather station set up and online (although it's offline now with the power outage). The NWS here is very pro-active with it's spotters and their FB page. It's been fun garbing with them. Here's a link for when my station is active: http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstat ... =KWAPLAIN3

I've also started a weather blog.. it's been kinda fun to play with. http://www.wunderground.com/blog/snowave/show.html

I've only been riding once so far.. a couple weeks ago at Mission Ridge, just outside of Wenatchee. Fun place with pretty dry snow, nice terrain, and good hike-to terrain...Great views, too. Some of the ski areas here already have 100" bases.

After the holidays, we'll be trying out more places locally and regionally.

Hope everyone has a good Christmas. I'm working on shifting a little more of this snow south. :!:

Nice nutshell.
Good pix except for the porcupine problem. The fire and the road to the house are evocative.
