Hello everyone. I'm Marsha, from Inglewood CA. I haven't skied since I was a kid, but did enjoy it. Thought I'd check this out to see if I wanted to get back into it, or maybe snowboarding.

Hi marsha and welcome to the forum. I hope you will be interested in skiing again. It's much easier with the new skis they have now and on this forum you will find plenty of advice. Pray for snow!

I would really like to get to Big Bear in the winter. They make their own snow from what I heard, but I'd rather have the real stuff.

If you go to Big Bear go to Snow Summit. It's more skier and family friendly than Bear Mountain. Doing a day trip up to Big Bear is an affordable way to get back into skiing or learning to snowboarding.
If you do try snowboarding I highly recommend taking a lesson.

Hi Marsha, welcome...

I did the same thing back in 2010. Got back into skiing after over 30 years. Jumped on the forum and learned a lot from all the friendly folks here. Didn't take long before I was meeting and skiing with a few of them and I have never looked back...

Hope you get back into it whether it be skiing or boarding. And yes definitely try the closest mountain to ya so you can get comfortable etc...

Then come up and try MM and have fun...

This past season Big Bear had better natural snow than Mammoth. Snow Summit opened Nov 9 and closed mid-April.

Right now I'm a little hesitant to ski because I have screwed up my knee. And twisting right now even with the brace on still hurts. But I think I will go check out Snow Summit this winter and see what they have to offer. Thanks for the advice!!! :D

I think you might prefer mammoth. the drive is a little more timewise unless you head to big bear before a friday. then you are stuck in 5mph traffice sucking up the fumes from the motorhomes. Personally i would rather drive at 65 with little or no traffic than stuck on a mountain stressed out with stop and go.

The other reason i say mammoth is the snow may be much better and easier on your knee rather than sliding and skidding on ice. Mammoth invested in snowmaking and does an incredible job of snowmaking from top to bottom.

Agree with sierra lady the new skiis are much shorter and easier to turn. Have fun!
