INCREASE THE IMAGE POSTING SIZE LIMIT

Postby 6IX » Wed Jun 13, 2012 4:44 pm

PLEASE!

800px WIDE AT LEAST... IF NOT 1000px... This is 2012, most eveyone has a large enough screen and high enough resolution to handle it.

The mods have previously explained that they can't expand the image size limit without changing the formatting of the forum. In other words, don't hold your breath...

I'll chime in as well. Would be nice!!! These photo peeps have some extremely outstanding photos. This just means more people will be even more so enticed to come on up - there is a pay off ;)

I administer a forum just like this so they dont need to tell me. If they applied a new style and didnt have the user info on the right, all images could expand out to the left and off the screen.

Even if they keep the current style/format (these type of php forums allow multiple style skins to be available to each user concurrently if they chose to add more) an 800px wide image wont blow out the right side bar anyway.

It sucks, and they should make it better.

Here is a screen shot of an 800px wide image posted in the same type of forum (ProSilver theme with the user info / avatar pane on the right side). Look at how much room is still available to the right of the 800px image before it would run into the right side pane. Just Do It!

Yes, that's exactly the issue: the theme/style they used and having the user info on the right. I believe at the time they switched to this forum they determined the average screen size of users visiting the forum and designed it to fit. Of course that was several years ago and hopefully most people have higher resolution screens by now.

Personally I lobbied for at least 800px wide images since many of the photo hosting sites have an automated resize option of 800 pixels but not 700. That means you either resize it yourself to 700 or select a smaller size such as 640px.

I completely agree that it would be REALLY nice to have at least 800 pixel wide images allowed but I doubt we'll get much traction at this time.

Exactly. I upload large images to photobucket that end up at 800px across.

Yeah I was having the same problem until I switched to Imageshack... Every time I would upload a picture to Photobucket and try and post it, I would get a message in red saying “image too large" or some sh!t, and if I sized it down the picture would be cut off badly. No problems since I went to Imageshack though, I am pretty sure they size the picture for you during uploading without cutting anything out of the pic.

I'm suddenly having the same trouble posting images uploaded to PB from my Droid. In the "Happy Thread" I posted a photo of some tomatoes. I tried it landscape and then portrait, cropped the photos on my phone, then uploaded to PB. In neither case does the full photo show in the post.

However, if I turn my phone sideways (landscape) I can see the complete photo.

If perchance I feel energetic tomorrow, I'll try it with my camera and post the results.

Yup ... just increasing it to 800 would be a big help.

Huh? A user having to manipulate her browser to see the whole photo is symptomatic of the photo being too big, not too small.

FWIW the lovely tomatoes are in two 639-pixel-wide photos, perhaps overkill for even the most Epicurean of tomato lovers...
