I've got a similar complaint. Check out this image:

See that smudge up there by the contrail? I dunno if that is a piece of dust within the lens or what, but there doesn't appear to be any getting rid of it. May be new camera time. :swear:

I have the exact same thing on my Nikon 9100. Let me know if you figure it out. I've cleaned it as much as possible, but it seems like the dust is beneath the lens cover, and I can't get the spec out no matter what. There's a pic (don't feel like cross posting) on the surfs up thread that I posted recently where you can see it.

Let me know if you figure out how to fix it!

I think I'm going to try blowing it out with some compressed air ... maybe around the lens barrel, or the body with the battery removed. I'm really kinda mystified as to how whatever it is got in there. This camera (the Lumix) isn't typically used in dusty environments ... and particularly not recently.

Whatever, it make it pretty useless for picture taking. Unless I can sell them to the Enquirer as UFO pix. :wasntme:

I hear ya. My camera is less then a year old which makes me particularly annoyed.

It's going around. I've been on the phone all day with people having problems with a new worksheet we put out saying it's broken, and each one has been user error. Follow the effing directions, people!!!

Nine times out of ten it's a dirty sensor and it will need to be cleaned. With my old Canon Mark II I had to have it cleaned two three times a year. But I'm outdoors almost exclusively. Now a days the front line cameras have a sensor cleaning trigger every time you turn the camera on. The new Mark IV I got has that feature. But almost all standard consumer cameras don't have that feature.

The usual reason is leaving your camera ON when changing lens. Taking the lens off when it's on is like a vacuum when the connections separate from each other. Any dust in or around that camera opening with get sucked onto the sensor. Hence, the small specs that appear in your images. You will try and photoshop them out at first but if you happen to change lens again like that, boom you have three or four real small spots instead of one...

So no need to get a new camera, unless you really want to. Just get the sensor cleaned and your camera will be good as new...

Also, it doesn't help when you drop your camera into Rush Creek.

Lol.

PG ... this is a pocket camera without an interchangeable lens. Is it still possible to get it cleaned?

^^^ Yes, but it has to be taken apart(usually at the factory) and cost close to the original price of the camera. MyG9 has a spot. So far I have PS it out when it's a problem.

Actually, I'm not completely sure it's on the array. The spot changes shape when I zoom, so it might actually be on one of the interior lens surfaces. Either way, it's probably hopeless. :(

I agree with Wayne. If it's a less expensive model it might be cost prohibitive. But my thought is how would dust get into a pocket camera in the first place. Maybe the dust is coming through the card slot. No that can't be it. If the camera costs more then 200-300 then at least price it out and se if that's an option. If it's less then that maybe a new toy is in the future for you as well...

Got my Mark IV this morning. Fed ex said from 8-12 and they came at 9am...They usually come at like 2:30 so I'm happy...Yee Haaa. Now all I need to do is read the fricken manual. The thing is waaaaay different the the old Mark II but it's my new toy so I'm just beside myself

Sounds like fun PG. :) More resolution and faster shooting. Time for some bigger memory cards :)

Yea got a 16g card now...Gives me 690 RAW images at 16 megs per image with 10 fps to catch all of Daners turns without missin' a beat. Wow, now that I think of it, I might need that new IMac sooner then I thought...

But I won't miss your hard edge turns next time at MM Wayne with this baby
