Just finished a great novel, first in a trilogy. "Sea of Poppies" by Amitav Ghosh.
An engaging story pulling you into India and eastern thought during the days of British rule. As with all good stories there are passages that ring a bell or make you think. This is one of my favorites from the book.

Are not all appearances deceptive in the end? Whatever there is within us - weather good bad or neithier - its existance will continue uninteruppted, will it not, no matter what the drape of our clothes, or the color of our skin?

Stephen King's "11-22-63" even if you're not a fan of his you'd like this one. I'm about a third of the way through it now, very entertaining.

The Botany of Desire. Great book, lots of entertaining stories, good information, and a provocative thesis: that plants have domesticated us.

I agree, I read this book a few months ago and Michael Pollan's insights and perspective are interesting and refreshing. If you like to garden, or have an interest in cooperative evolution, you will enjoy this book.

I read Sea of Poppies a couple of years ago and highly recommend it! Looking forward to reading the 2nd in the Ibis triology "Sea of Smoke".

Very interesting so far, I like the findings about how during winter months the cases of syphilis, Gonorrhea, & HIV are dramatically reduced (well except in Mammoth, HA-ha).

Just wrapping up The Pillars of the Earth, by Ken Follet.

Pretty good character development, and snapshot of the time (Early 12th century Europe). I've seen the miniseries bouncing around the tv, but haven't watched that.
I used to be with it, then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with, isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me. It'll happen to yoooouuu.

Over the holiday I finished the true story about Jaycee Dugard "A Stolen Life".

Just finished reading "The Help".

Now reading John Grisham's "Skipping Christmas" and it's delightful.
