Speaking of... I just got my permit for the HST trail in July, Highanxiety and I will be making the trek to Mt Whitney from Crescent Meadow on the West side, looking forward to my 3rd summit in as many years.

Sweet you'll love that route Max. I went from Mineral King to Mt Whitney back in '79. We did it in 5 days. Sierra South book suggested 8 days. But we were young and full of energy back then and could do it that fast. I wanted to spend a few days on the upper Kern where the tributaries all flow into it. But we were on a dang schedule so only one night.

If you guys have the time try a side trip up into Milestone Basin. Hardly anyone goes in that far these days so you should be all be yourselves up there. The lakes up there are full of trout and the scenery if outstanding...

I wish I was in better shape, don't think I could keep up with you two young studs... ;)

Poinsettias, Carlsbad, phone pic. No post. Saturation could be messed with, but the actual color was so intense.

I used to be with it, then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with, isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me. It'll happen to yoooouuu.

The HST is a great trip. Kaweah Gap is a nice climb to remind you that in the Sierras it's either up or down. That is definitely up! We did a modified last year since we had been up to Whitney a few years in a row. After leaving the Kern Hot Springs instead of turning east at Junction Meadow we headed West up and over Colby Pass to Roaring River and then up Deadman Canyon over and out back to Lodgepole.

Nothing like laying in the Kern and then soaking in a nice hot tub out in the wilderness! Enjoy your trip.

Love the memories...It was nice to soak in the hot tub out in the middle of the Sierra. As I sat there in the tub, feeling every muscle in my body excited about being there, I just couldn't get over where I was. The Kern River is about half way between the west side and the East side. Right in the middle of it all. Just seemed kinda surreal. And with the knowledge that the rest of the trip to Mt Whitney is ALL uphill...But it was a trip I'll NEVER fortget...

You guys are getting me super excited for this trip, last time I came through the Sierra was from Walker Pass to Reds Meadow and it was 20 mile days topped off by running out of food 2 days from Kearsarge Pass - good times. This time, we are packing 4 nights - 5 days worth of food for 72 miles so 14.4mpd as well as soaking in a hot spring sounds sublime. Plus, I have decided do leave the bear canister behind and go with an Ursack for this trip, I figure if I get caught and cannot talk my way out it - I will gladly donate $150 to the USFS.

Oh yeah since this is a picture thread...

Can anyone tell which pass this is?

Not sure what pass it is but kinda reminds me of the approach to Guitar Lake on the backside of Whitney. But I was up there 30+ yrs ago so I may be wrong but sure looks similar...
