Wow a lion of the "Mountain" variety ? I would love to know more on that brave act . I hope he didn't get hurt.

Here is the story on that:
A Close Call in the Wild

I watched the news on TV with great curiosity about the mountain lion that was trapped in a garage in suburban Los Angeles and held at bay by three ferocious Chihuahuas. I don’t think any man or beast could handle three barking Chihuahuas for 45 minutes until Fish and Game could get there and dart the animal through the window. It sure made for some great video footage and display of defense mechanisms in the animal world.

One thing I learned about hiking in the woods is that the more you do it, the greater your chances are for running into an animal like a bear or lion. That is why I prefer to hike with my dog, who I taught to alert me to animals or people. In fact, I would not be here today if it wasn’t for my dog pulling me out of a real scary situation. One I hope you never experience-a face to face encounter with a mountain lion.

You can’t run and you can’t hide from a mountain lion. If you have ever watched a house cat attack a ball of string, then you can just imagine what a lion could do to you. If you turn your back on a mountain lion, you are going to get mauled. You cannot believe how big and powerful they are, until you are standing four feet away from one, and it is growling with its paw ready to nail you-just like that ball of string.

I was working for the forest service in Ferron, Utah in 1995. I went for a hike in the hills in back of my house with my dog Spenny. It was raining lightly that day, and I climbed up this barren hillside and was coming back down. There were sandstone ledges, and I had to go through a narrow chute with thick brush. I let Spenny go ahead of me, when he stopped and started growling at something below the rock face. I sensed danger and began to step back, when the next thing I knew, a lion jumped up in front of me four feet away and was ready to attack.

At that moment it was all about eye contact. That split second that seems like an eternity was surreal. I could just imagine the claws and teeth mauling me to death. No doubt about it, this was the worst fear I had ever faced in my life. There was no getting around the reality that the lion was king. All I could think to do was grab my day pack to cover my face. I started yelling as loud as I could, “Go on! Go on!” Thank God the lion jumped back down and let me scramble up and out of there. It must have had babies it was protecting or it would have never left itself in a vulnerable position.

I saw caves on the way out and was worried about another lion being close by. I got out of there as fast as I could and ran shaking back down to the car. I could have stepped down on that lion and been mauled to death, but Spenny came through for me as he always did right to the very end.

Tough guys think they could have pulled a weapon and shot the lion in that same situation. I have news that the lion is faster than the human and can get you before you can pull a pistol. It is important to remember that we should have respect for such fantastic creatures. One thing I do know is that the lion let me live by choice. It had the power of life and death over me that day, and I will always appreciate that it chose to let me live

oh my. What a close call. I am so glad no animals were hurt in this story. Thanks for sharing. I hope I never have a story like that to write about. We have plenty of bears and cougar here in The Columbia River Gorge of Oregon and I have only seen them from a far, really far. My closest call was with rattle snakes. My dog Snow Bear got nose to nose with one and I stepped around and over several . Sends chills up and down my spine.

Here's one that got me worried about letting the dog out at night in Paradise...

My neighbors went out to dinner up at Toms Place one night about a month ago. Came home, after a bit the dogs started going nuts at something outside. The guy walks out to check and finds a mountain lion walking thru his yard. He shined the light on it and it took off up Lower Rock Creek canyon. This happened right below my house a mear 100 yards away. Turns out that the lions cruise looking for deer or stray calfs down in Round Valley.

I keep an eye out now whenever I let the dogs out at night...

Your Duck is Dead !

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet
on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's
chest.

After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your
duck, Cuddles, has passed away."

The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the Vet..

"How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean you haven't done any testing
on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."

The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few
minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever.. As the duck's owner looked on
in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the
examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at
the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.

The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes
later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately
sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its
head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.

The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most
definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck."

The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill,
which he handed to the woman.. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill.
"$150!" she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!"

The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill
would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150."

You know the drill ..if you're smiling, you must pass it on, give someone else a
smile too! Share the laughter....
