Just read this post GWAP and it seems so shocking. That your dog could have had the problem all that time. But don't take it out on yourself. Your Anstoli is now in doggy heaven and is being comforted as I write this...

Monster had some wierd cancerous growth growing on his leg that he had to have removed, so he can't swim until the stitches come out. Poor baby boy! The vet says we have to keep him from what I call 'baby horsing' too...where he jumps and playbows, and then jumps backwards into the wall. :(
I am evil. I swear.

I could not feel worse today unless my dog was dead.

She is in having her right eye removed now. I don't know how it happened, and the vet didn't see a scratch. She woke up one morning with the eye in trouble, and I put ointment on. It got better the next day and worse on the third day. I took her into the vet and put medicine for a couple of days. On my follow up visit this morning the vet said she was blind in that eye, in pain and needed to get the eye removed or she would get glaucoma.

It happened that fast, and I am heartbroken. She will still be able to see out of the other eye, but I will always be reminded of this terrible day by the loss of her right eye.

The vet said it is not congenital, but I will always worry about the other eye.

So now we face a two week recovery. I am going down!

Thanks Highwayman for your kind words of support during this difficult time for my little girl Mallory. I am still having a hard time wondering why she got better and then went blind the next day. For two days I didn't even know she was blind.

I had to have the eye removed or she would have always been in pain and then got the buldging eye from glaucoma. There is no way I would ever let her remain in pain. I would put her to sleep before she ever had to suffer like that.

When I brought her home from the vet, she acted like nothing happened. She even tried to go after a lizard. She ate her dinner, went outside, and kept a watch on me with her good eye.

This will not stop us, and we will be back in action soon.

All you dog owners out there need to know that owning a dog is not always fun and games. Things can happen out of the blue that are unimaginable, shocking and very depressing. Out of the five dogs that I have owned in my life, none of them ever had a serious eye problem.

Sometimes bad things happen to good dogs.
