Woah..

You're finally getting out of this place! How cool is that? And no state income tax to pay either!

Kudos on pulling this trigger. Probably beats Libby, actually.

As far as I'm concerned, Washington is as good as Montana, as I spent 2-3 weeks there last April and May (in the NE part of WA), and loved every minute of the rain and snow and mud-camping I experienced.

My friend and former co-worker leaves for Wenatchee on Monday for 3 months to fix up a house of a relative that passed away. Her husband is originally from WA, around Wenatchee as well. Told her I'd visit them.

You better like lotsa snow and rain, cuz itsa lot wetter than WW! And so close to Stevens and Leavenworth ski hills. Seattle for concerts and sports. Whistler and Baker if you don't mind the drive..

Great fishing, a lesser chance of forest fires in the western WA state Cascades (on avg), alot less vehicle traffic and crazy drivers than SoCal, and more affordable lift tickets (albeit no Spring skiing at MMSA). Not to mention a change of pace, and a general feel to the area and the local populace that's markedly DIFFERENT than MH/WW/SoCal.

Have a great adventure up there; had fun skiing with ya at MM and Solitude and Snowbasin, Hooters in Midvale, etc..

I hope to be up there myself before the month is over!

Rub it in when WA is getting early snowfall (or heavy RAIN), and again in Junuary when CA is dry and sunny.

Enjoy!

(PS - when does Stevens Pass close?)

You too PG. Looks like a caravan in the making. I'm thinking Pho could be the one schooling us on fishing.

Is there such a thing as a multi-state fishing license??

Washington is awesome. I've been seriously considering moving to northern WA for a while now. You can ski in August there!

Sno you may be changing mountains, but bacon is eternal. Keep on this forum! Best of luck to ya. Maybe if I ever visit my friend in Olympia I can swing by your guest cabin. And dont forget to keep us informed on the subduction zone tsunami pending.

Hey wait a minute. Isnt the east side of the Cascades dry like Wrightwood?

Me too. I feel as if I also have one foot out the door toward Washington. Things do not always turn out the way you planned and that is the case with me. I am in Washington now and I am looking around about going home. My boys are in Mammoth, my other boys up here, but I want to go home. Sometimes you just have to call it quits and head for the covers. I am still trying to decide. I love Mammoth and I have many friends here. I am trying to plan out the rest of my life. I am open to marrying a foreigner if they need a green card.

Leavenworth is a great location. You can ski Mission Ridge or Stevens Pass. I prefer Stevens Pass. There is a town called plain and it has horseback riding and huge cabins. Good Luck.

Thanks for all the kind responses, guys... means alot to me... really.

To answer some of your questions..

LLC19- no, we not taking the pint glass rack, but we are taking the glasses. :P

Grumpy- that's awesome, I hadn't even looked yet at what kind of hockey was available. All I knew is, near the town we're living in, they maintain an 'ice rink' on the lake all winter. (it's called Fish Lake)
Image

There is also an ice rink they are building in Leavenworth that is supposed to be open next year I think.
http://leavenworthicerink.com/index.php

I guess Wenatchee ice arena offers public stick time, hockey lessons, etc.. so I may be able to actually get a chance to learn to skate/play afterall. http://www.towntoyotacenter.com/hockey/

MN- Stevens Pass is planning to stay open at least til May 6th Fri-Mon.... then, as long as conditions and business levels permit (boy that sounds like MH terminology).. They have a 151"-175" base right now. I will be a weekend warrior again in the winters at least.

Pho- yes, we are blessed with this house we got... it is truly amazing. All the main logs came from the Yellowstone fire... the barn is from 1700's Tennessee.. and was transported here! oh, and you are like the uncle I never wanted. :|

Twin's- you'll have to get video of the missing man/woman salute. :D

Gwap- The town of Plain is where our house is (well, we're about 5 minutes outside of "town").

guys- sure you can come up.. the guest cabin is fairly small, but is completely furnished (kitchen, shower, 2 beds "upstairs" in the loft.. and a futon)... Skipunk can sleep out on the banks of the river though. We have 2.5 acres, so he can spread out a little. ;)

STD- I will transfer snake wrangling duties to you.. but only before you break open those 9.2% beers!

Cheaps- Relatively speaking, yes... Leavenworth is on the drier side of the Cascades.. however, it is still in the mountains and close enough to the crest that it gets a decent amount of precip.. about 100" of snow a year.. Plain, gets about 125". The crest, not far away gets around 400-600"+. Avg total water is 25.09" in Leavenworth... a little more in Plain.

Summers are probably pretty close to WW from what I understand, with warm and dry... and occasional t-storms. The good thing is, it is a mix of maritime and continental airmasses, so it's not overcast as often as the west slope. As much as I like weather, that might get annoying to me being cloudy 80% of the time 6 months out of the year. The thing that probably makes it seem alot wetter it that there are rivers, streams, lakes, etc.. EVERYWHERE. It's also very dense forest, too. The elevation is only 1200 ft in Leavenworth, and 1900 ft in Plain.. but remember what latitude we're at up there!
