I`ll have to look for that one.
Just about everything I`ve had from them has been very good. I think I`m in PG`s boat with Sculpin be my favorite.

edit to say, I don`t taste any overwhelming bitters in the Pliny, Now Hoptimum is another story, but I love the bitters too!

I have been looking all over for it. It seems that it might be at the Pacific Park Market tomorrow afternoon, but I have been fooled before so don’t quote me.

The Mrs & I being idiots tonight, this is definitely in my top 5 for favorite beers.

The black and rye combo scared me off before, but I finally pulled the trigger when the cooler was lacking Doublejack and the new Ballast. Wouldn't want a sixer of it, but tasty. Still consuming after an hour.

With San Diego honeysuckle.

Goes with this berry.

Haven't seen it yet either. Local store was supposed to have it last week but I will try Hi-Time Cellar on Friday as they pull a ton of weight and seem to get things first. BTW Hi-Time has one of the very best line ups including Mammoth brews which the owner brings down every week or so> To many good beers to chase, when all I need is Ballast Point Big Eye and Stone Ruination!

Can the Dodgers get it together?

"Since this a beer thread...I went to that “Party in the Park” in Dana Point yesterday and by the time I got there all they had left for beer was Shocktop. No more - Dogfish head, Ballast Point, Green Flash, Coronado, etc... DOH!"

I think there needs to be some kind of standard with a craft brew fest. Anytime they run out of beer or they serve Shocktop they shouldn't be able to qualify for the distinguished status of "craft brew fest"-and hardly the lessor designation of "beer party status"(those are good names though-but not if they run out).

I'm going to try and remember to remind you, my fellow hopinistas, next year, around April 21st when our own Left Coast Brewing hosts the 3rd annual San Clemente Beer Festival. Its been killer both years (thanks Left Coast!) with about 15 local and semi local breweries attending. Live music, good smells coming from grills, and all you can drink of good stuff. And nobody has run dry yet. We usually try (emphasis here) to go for a ride afterwards cause there's good biking right there and we don't feel like driving just yet. So if you ride in dirt it's even better, a win win deal.

Cheers.

Still no sign of the Dorado here in Carlsbad. In the mean time, if you can find this Alesmith Yulesmith, grab it. Limited release. A DIPA that punches the clock at 8.5% abv. Really good stuff. Had it before a Pliny, and it made PtE seem mild.

Image

Went up to Santa Ynez this weekend. Checked out Figueroa Mountain Brewing. Everything is so tight from a brand/marketing standpoint, it's a little Disney. I guess the father/son owners hired a brewer and brewpub/brewery consultant to kick things off. Beers are decent, but the vibe doesn't have much soul.

Taster flight:

Image

This pale is nice as a session ale, as it's about 4.5%

This was a decent imbibe

Stopped in Firestone in hopes of getting some fresh beers. No Velvet Merlin, but finally got to try the Double Jack and Wookey Jack on tap, and a UDBA, which is a version of their DBA. Really dug the Wookey Jack.

This is for Paradise Guy. Hit Ojai for the first time. Really fun. I was thinking about Angelo's bowl as we drove through Malibu on the way.

Nice Stephen...I have never seen that BP double IPA before. Man they have cool lables, don't they...

edit...That's a nice shot PE395. You take it or are you the skater? Great one wheeler in any case...

Pliny is relatively mild. (If someone had told me it's not a DIPA, I would believe them.) Which is kinda funny for me to say because I think Dorado hangs a little too much on the bitter. I wish I could write like a beeradvocate reviewer, but I am not there. Suffice, Sculpin tastes more complex to me (read: balance + flavor). So PtE, Sculpin and Doublejack prolly my top 3 at the moment.

BTW, Holiday in Dido has plenty of Dorado.

Edit: I reckon Double Dorado isn't all that bitter compared to some I have not tried, so I toned it down some.
