Verizon 4G coming to Mammoth?

Postby SurfnSnowboard » Thu Oct 07, 2010 7:48 pm

Looks that way from this coverage map that the CEO used in his presentation last week. Verizon announced they would be "flipping the switch" on their 4G LTE service in 38 cities this year and would complete the rollout in 2012. 4G users should see download speed of 8 to 12 mbps! Initially 4G will only be available for some notebooks and laptop users via a USB dongle. 4G should be available staring early next year.

Sorry for the poor quality image - I did a screen grab from an image taken during the presentation.

4G should be available in LA and San Diego by the end of this year

Of course the real question is whether the iPhone will be available on Verizon or not.

Meh not so important since the increadible, droid x & droid 2 are more than comprable devices, and in many ways better than the iphone. Regardless, great to see Verizon stepping it up.

Wow, I was wondering why my Mifi connection up here was faster this weekend! 1.25 Mbps down in Snowcreek according to speedtest tonight (Sunday).

^^^ The iPhone 5 is the only iPhone to support 4G LTE. AT&T touted HSPA+ as 4G but it wasn't nearly as fast as 4G LTE. Maybe that's what your friend's iPhone 4 is showing.

I thought LTE Advanced wasn't planned to roll out until mid-2013. And I also thought AT&T was scheduled to roll it out before Verizon.

4G hspa is still faster than most have in mammoth. I saw a ATT samsung galaxy III that had 6.8/1.5 that is faster than my Verizon DSL has been. I pay for the fastest.

interesting. I didnt know about hspa. So its basically "3.5G".....

Definition

HSPA+ is an enhanced version of high-speed 3G wireless networks. Because it is so closely related to 3G and is not a new, built-from-the ground-up technology, HSPA+ has been called a 3.5G network instead of a true 4G network. But HSPA+ networks are capable of delivering 4G speeds, with download speeds between 5 megabits per second and 8 mbps.

AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile both offer HSPA+ service.

sounds like Verizon does not offer hspa?
