I have noticed over the past few years that some people that call themselves 'locals' have a big problem with people from the outside world encroaching on 'their' territory. Of course it's a natural tendency for people to defend their land and home and it's easy to get carried away, but I have seen totally unacceptable behavior by some people. One guy I remember shoving a woman on the redline yelling 'go back to LA'. Anyway just want to encourage people to be welcoming and accepting since this town or resort wouldn't exist without the people that make the long trek.
Got an unsettling comment on our Ski Team website earlier from a 'mammoth loc': "you guys blow... waste of space and good camera equipment... f&&ing rich little SC ba&&rds"
Figured they came through my video link on the forums. Anyway just want to say we are here to have a good time and the videos are for everyone's enjoyment. We - the officers of the team - work really hard to make getting to the mountains easy and devote non-stop work to it. That 'good' camera equipment is a $299 GoPro camera that was given to us for filming and editing a promotional video for them this summer. And for the record - my family lost our house last year due to foreclosure and I work 3+ jobs and have always paid for school entirely on my own - I know a lot of similar stories on the ski team: USC gives out some of the most financial aid of any school so not all of us are the rich ones - yeah we still are able to get Mammoth passes and ski so we are very fortunate but most of it is by hard work. Obviously I can ignore comments like these but they still pinch me the wrong way to know that people have such a wrong idea of who we are or what we do.
Entitlement to the mountain is the silliest thing I've ever heard of. And if we blow, I'd really like to see the commenter doing double rodeo 900's or double backflips over Mammoth's 80 footer like people on our team were last year.
