Some other threads mention folks raving about:

Armada JJ
Atomic Atlas
Volkl Gotama
Volkl Katana
PM Gear Lhasa Pows
Rossignol S7

Personally, I'm keeping my eyes out for the Armadas to buy used, but I think they're hard to find. I may grab a pair of Volkl Gotamas if I can find a pair of 2010s. My son has the kid's version and he rips on them - and loves them.

Good luck!

If you're looking for something truly great in powder, I'd suggest:

Praxis Powder
Praxis Protest
DPS Lotus 138
DPS Lotus 120
ON3P Cease & Desist
4FRNT Renegade (available starting next year)
Armada ARG
When it comes out, the PM Gear "Splatula"
Fatypus Alotta
K2 Pontoon
Volant Spatula

Although I've never skied any of these, I've heard the best things about the skis from Praxis and DPS. The PM Gear Splatula might end up being the best, but I don't know when they're going to start making it.

x2 on the Katanas
Skeeze - those are all well reviewed but -
unless you ski them - ya never now -
I skied a pair of pontoons in Alta and while they were great in the powder - they suc$ed on the groomers -
both the goats and the Katanas are fine on the groomers, running back to the lift
I had a pair of the black goats that are now owned by my friends daughter after a year's stop over with a condo mate
it rhymes with chowda

I'm sure most if not all of the skis I mentioned suck on groomers. However, if you want a pure powder ski, that shouldn't matter.

I have these skis and absolutely love them. They are, in my opinion, the best overall ski. They are ridiculous in pow, but also very good on the groomers leading up to the lifts.

What binding do you have on them? I'm checking out the Marker Schizos, but I've never had a binding with an adjustable position. Anyone have experience with them?

I have the JJ's and absolutely love them. I've also owned the ARG's but recently sold them because I liked the JJ's so much more. The ARG's definitely rule but the JJ's are just soooooooooooooooooooo much more versatile. I use them for everything besides park.

My JJ's are currently mounted with dukes. I'm thinking of getting some Quiver Killer Binding Inserts so I can swap out the dukes with some standard bindings to save some weight when riding in-bounds.

Thanks Danimal! I'll check them out. I'm thinking of either going with the Duke Jesters or the Salomon STH's.

I know, I know. . . everyone's gonna get on me for opening up an old topic, but I managed to find this thread on my search for new skis -- and I actually wanted to ask Ozzy a few questions, if that's alright. My name is Wendy, by the way. =)

I noticed that you purchased the ski's in August 2010; which means the Armada's are fairly new. How have they been so far? I'm looking for a good set of skis that will keep me somewhat balanced, but won't break my ankles either. LOL. I don't want to use some sort of ankle brace anytime soon. ;)

Do you recommend these to someone of my build (5 foot 4 inches - 135 lbs). I'm sorry if I sound naive! I'm pretty new to skiing and I want do it right. Thanks a lot, folks! I can't wait to meet you all. =D

My friend just got 2010 Prior Overlords for just over $500 from REI. Apparently the guys on TGR love them...
