Your Ideal Ski Jacket Shell

Looking for a new shell this year. Preferably, something just the shell, insulation is a non-issue as I will layer a thermal + midweight if necessary. Looking for something a bit more form fitting, my current eight year old north face fits me like a parachute. Was going to get something last year but ended up getting new pants and boots instead, so this year my purchase will be a nice new jacket

What do you guys like? I know I've seen stuff here for Patagonia, Cloudveil ..... I'm not tied to North face but I've always liked the fit of their clothes. Arctery'x is another brand out there but they are a bit more pricey (some are upwards of $5 bills!) but if it's a good jacket that will last me several years then I'm likely OK with it.

- Waterproof
_ Shell only, no insulation
_ Pit zips
_ Front pockets
_ Probably some form of tightener at the waist, doesn't necessarily need to be a powder skirt but some cinch
_ Hood and tall neck zip to keep my chin warm..

I like all the features you mention, plus another ... velcroed cuffs. That's good for keeping wind out when you want to and getting ventilation when you don't. I also agree about the pit zips ... they're necessary on a good shell for ventilation when you need it.

The eVent fabric that the Shuksan jacket is made of is amazing stuff. Completely wind and waterproof, durable, and doesn't lose it's breathability with time as a lot of other fabrics do.

Too bad Showers Pass doesn't make ski shells. Some of their cycling jackets (like the Elite) would fit the bill nicely for you, but would look funky on the slopes with the flap in the back (although it has a cinch on the bottom that can fix that).

Marmot jacket I bought the other day at REI was $200, from $285. Wasn't a shell jacket, but the liner does come out to make it one. Had all of the above -- detachable hood. Doesn't have any inside pockets in the shell, which is the only bummer -- but I can make it work.
