I've been really happy with the Laclede Alpine Premier chains (http://www.lacledechain.com/traction/pa ... inepremier). Not only are they great chains (excellent traction on snow, ice, etc. when they're installed properly), they have a cable that goes behind the tire so you don't have to drive over them to install. I've used these on 2 different cars, and once you learn how to install them it's fairly easy to do the job even when it's dumping snow (practice at home before having to do it for real in inclement weather).

Didn't see those on the link that you provided, but I got mine at O'Reilly Auto Parts and they have locations all over SoCal: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/searc ... ire+chains. Not cheap, but definitely worth the money in my opinion.

Easy enough to put on and should long enough as most people rarely chain up (especially this year!). I just test fit mine tonight after requesting Mon-Tue off work... ;)

Amazon would likely be the cheapest even if you have to pay for 2 day shipping vs buying locally.

What you said - I'm heading up to Mammoth on Sunday and made a note to take the same snow tools, and also refreshed myself on how to install the chains since it's been so long.

And I noticed today that they're backing off the snow forecast for Monday, so maybe it'll be ski-able after all. :-)

You guys are still pushing "chains"... try these.. I have had them since 2006 I drive a Full size Express Van AWD with Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Pro Grade tires. (FYI: Should NEVER need chains)

I know the Sno Claw might be way over kill but I never have to worry about getting stuck in snow or mud.. Oh ya and having the chains break on me which was the reason I moved to this solution in the first place.(the damage on the side of the vehicle) I bought these because in 2004-05 we left mammoth on Dec 29th drove to Tahoe in a blizzard. I went thru 2 sets of heavy duty chains between going and returning. Sure getting to Bishop took 10 hours via the 395 -> 95 -> 6 thru hawthorne. since the 395 was closed at topaz.

Sure they were designed for H1's, jeeps and 4x4's.. Fire trucks?? in snow and mud.

Listening to our scanner we just heard about the first roll-over of the season just below the Earthquake Fault.

I don't care what kind of tire traction device you use...all are useless unless you S-L-O-W D-O-W-N in snowy conditions! :!:
