I want to know how many days you spent in school. Seems you have skiied your way through college.

Not that there is anything wrong with that :)

Back to talk of ski bindings.... I'm picking up a pair of Volkl Shiro Juniors (163) for my 12 year old son who weighs 105 pounds. I've always put Marker M07 bindings on his smaller skis, but now he needs something bigger with a 100mm wide brake. Any recommendations from anyone on a good pre-teen age binding? I ski Salomon STH Drivers, so I was thinking of going light and finding him the STH 12. They're still 2200 grams, so hopefully doesn't add too much weight.

Damn kid is starting to cost me a fortune! :D

I am curious as to Why you are making this kind of change.

I want to challenge the idea that anything less than 12 din indicates an aggressive skier.

If you all seem to be setting your own din's I would say that is subjective. Din is a dynamic setting and there is more to consider than skier type. I would counter that if a certified tech sets your bindings at anything above a 7 you are encroaching an aggressive skier. At my weight I do not need my bindings set as high as a 12 but I am a type 3, agressive skier.

I found this link to be informative about bindings - pretty basic, but helpful to me anyway.
If you believe this guy, the STH 12 is too much binding for your son at 105 pounds...

Yeah, that's actually a decent enough link. Definitely don't go with any Markers besides the Griffon/Jester/Baron/Duke. If you decide to go Salomon, the STH 12 is a decent option (I actually don't like mine so much--with forward pressure set correct I need to set my STH 12s at 10.5 vs. FKS at 8--not all DIN is created equally), just be sure you don't get any of the Z-series bindings. Your son is likely still too small to actually break bindings, but he'll be growing fast, so you might as well get something that you won't have to replace if he gets a huge growth spurt. And on that note, if you think he may be changing boot sizes in the near future, consider a demo binding. Most demo bindings are bad, but I know the Marker Griffon and Look PX series demos will be solid enough.

Thanks all for the info! He definitely doesn't need the 12 din, he just needs a quality and lightweight binding that's beefy enough for his aggressive style, but not too massive.

I have STH12s on my volkl bridges and I hate them. They're made of weak plastic and mine are destroyed now. I only use them when I'm saying on 17 at work, anything more and they're prone to prerelease.
Don't do it in the park.
