Riding after 9/20?

Postby sddjd » Thu Sep 10, 2009 4:44 pm

Just out of curiosity, how is peripheral bike trail access affected once the bike park closes on the 20th? Would it be acceptable, for example, to find one's way down from the Horseshoe Lake area via some of the trails west of Lake Mary Rd. near Paper Route rather than via the road?

It's likely that we'll be riding, hopefully, past the 20th but we obviously don't want to run afoul of trail restrictions... Thanks for any info.

Check out the trails on this mountain biking / OHV map.

Call the USFS at the M.L. Welcome Center/Ranger Station and ask: 760.924.5500 and dial "0" for a live person to speak with. They're open daily from 8-5. You can also pick up the above map for free at that location at the entrance to town, on your right.
Always carry chains.

This is the best time of year for riding. We did 110 miles going from Tom's to Benton and back. Average speed 32mph according to the GPS. We used the GPS to retrace an enduro course from last year. The course took us North over the Glass mountains and across 120 before turning East to Benton where we had a late lunch.

Ride whatcha got,

We went for a short ride today.. Sand Canyon, and wheeler crest. We did the trail to wheeler twice it was so much fun.
Lots of deer hunters out there. By the looks on their faces they don't like dirtbike riders... We didn't see a single deer, no doe, no bucks, no notta, nothing. All the hunters we talked to said the same thing. Yesterday riding on the back side of Glass we did hear a few gun shots.. I figured they were shooting at us..

I rode Sand Canyon yesterday on my mountain bike. The trail is pretty banged up. Extra sandy and beat up due to the horses leaving the Rock Creek pack station. It was still really fun.

I passed two peddle bikers headed down near the top of Sand Canyon. I ran into them later at the bar at Tom's Place.

Rode up Coyote out of the Bishop DWP sub-station on Saturday and didn't take a single picture. We rode down from Coyote via Big Pine Spring, to County Line Rd West of Big Pine. The trail from Coyote to Big Pine was one of the narliest trails I've been on. We followed the powerlines North back to Bishop. 47 miles round trip. I'd recomend only advance riders take the trail down to Big Pine, it has several very technical challanges along the way.

Didn't see a single peddle biker.. saw lots of deer, two big Bucks, a bear and one of Ronnie's lost cows.

the cow seemed lonely. When I got back to Crowley I called Ronnie and told him he left one up there.

and I know, B.S.without pics.

I'm done dirtbike riding for the season.. you peddle bikers can have this thread back.. I'd love to see some pictures
