Disc Golf

Postby ClockworkPomegranate » Mon May 11, 2009 10:07 pm

Shady Rest Pines Disc Golf Course is open for business. Sorry no baskets. :( This is an object course with 20 holes, three pin positions per hole. Details and downloadable course map can be found at the course directory at pdga.com. Course is well marked and start across the road from the small skate park at Shady Rest. Just say chuck it!

Let's get some baskets out there.

Maybe the Mountain could make a donation to buy the baskets. I will donate my time to help install them and set up a web page with all the details. Let's find a way to make it happen... I miss go old Oak Grove Park.

It's a little more complicated than just installing baskets. The course is not strictly speaking "official", but I have had it marked and mapped for over three years and haven't had any complaints yet. I have let the MLTPA know about its existence and who knows, by now we might have squatters rights. ;)

Cool handle you got there, ClockworkPomegranate.
It should be fun to come up with an appropriate avatar to go with it.

Ya dude, I love frisbee golf! Just downloaded the map and plan on playing within the next few weeks. Concrete tee pads and baskets sure would be sweet!

Baskets would bring out more people and subsequently more trash and erosion, which in turn would piss off the forest service, who would then put an end to it completely. I say leave it as it is. Its fun.

There is a simple solution to all this. MMSA needs to install a disc golf course. ;)

It feels so good to be appreciated.

From the Sheet.

"And believe it or not, there is actually a disc-golf course here in Mammoth (though it looks more like a Searles layout than a Nicklaus one). And when I say “course,” I mean it in the loosest term. It’s actually a bunch of trees wrapped in tape. In fact, it might only be considered a “course” when there’s a 12-pack of beer involved. Nonetheless, Shady Rest does have a place for disc-golfers to chase Frisbees around for a couple hours like a pack of drunken puppies."

"But to my disappointment I quickly came to a harsh realization: the course at Shady Rest sucks, no it actually sucks hard. Wait, no, in fact; it might be the suckiest suck that ever sucked. "

Come feel the suck.

Or for the most awesome time ever, go play the course that Colon(sic) Wolf designed and installed and mapped so anyone could use. Where is this awesomeness located? Apparently it's a secret.

Did I mention it was awesome.

Looks nice and a great way to kill a afternoon after the lifts stop at 1. Congrats on getting called out by the free paper for the suckyness of your course.

Maybe it's time for a positive video story on the course... pm me and we can get it done!

The map of the course is at the website listed above. Just look for Shady Rest Pines and download the map. You will need a color printer as the map doesn't print well in black and white.

When I click on the download arrow, nothing happens. :?: It works for the other places.
