Favorite ES Picnic Spots

There are hundreds of great places to picnic in the ES in the Sierra, the Whites or the Valley floor. There is a real nice little picnic area on the road to the Bristlecones that I always used to stop at and eat lunch when I worked up there.

The spot in the above photo just tickles me, because it is right off the South Lake parking lot, and nobody seems to know about it. Because it is above the parking area and in the opposite direction of the trailhead, people just don't see it. I can tell you that it doesn't get any better for a primo picnic spot than that place.

I have been there numerous times and have never seen anybody there.

Check it out and include your favorite picnic spot. Just like that spot on the couch or in the easy chair, everybody has a spot where they gravitate to. Even dogs do, especially the one called Spot.

Just about anywhere around the region would be a great picnic spot! :)

I'll try to remember on Friday to check it out. Thanks!

Great post Windy. I've had lunch up there many times over the years. Even fell asleep on one of the tables and then it started raining. Got all wet...

Has anyone ever stopped at the old abandoned picnic area and probably a campground way back before the current highway 395 by 8 mile? The old stretch of highway that I found a lot of cool old pop bottles on goes from Aberdeen down to just below 8 mile north of Indy and dead ends at the new highway. It is real interesting in there with lava rock formations and all the big fires that burned up the brush. There are also some trailheads off that road like Sawmill, Division Creek, Taboose and many others.

Just north of 8 mile ranch on that old highway, look for a bunch of trees lining a dirt road with a gate. You will see remains of picnic tables and an irrigation system that waters the trees.

Well, let me tell you that this place is real nice Spring, Fall and Winter. It is a great place to stop and take a break from a long drive. It is just a beautiful little oasis they created there way back and still is today.

Snap a photo because I don't have one.
