Need some Suggestions.

Postby noworkski » Sun Sep 09, 2012 5:38 pm

The wife, kid (3 1/2 year old girl) and I are going to Mammoth on Tuesday thru Saturday for some well deserved family time and R&R. We have no plans or idea what we are doing, but have a few thoughts -

(1) Go to a lake (which one?), rent a boat (pontoon to eat lunch, feed birds????), or maybe fish (but don't want to bring my gear with me so need a guide with gear, lisenses, etc.) and relax;
(2) Go for a short (2 miles one way) scenic hike with trees, river?, lake? (where?), have a picnic and relax;
(3) Drive towards Yosemite, and sight see, have picnic or stop somewhere an eat, etc.

When in town (staying at Westin), get a massage for the wife.

Any suggestions? Thanks for the input.

Is Devil's Postpile still an option? Great hike, really fun day.

Come to June Lake and rent a boat, I'll be your guide and provide you gear. You need to get a license at Ernie's.

The hike into Parker Lake is easy and has trees and a creek. You'll love it.

(3) Drive towards Yosemite, and sight see, have picnic or stop somewhere an eat, etc.

Gotta stop at the Tioga Gas Mart and eat at the Whoa Nellie Deli.

When in town (staying at Westin), get a massage for the wife.

I'll second the recommendation on Parker Lake. Fairly easy hike, with great scenery. :y:

You've already been to Bodie and taken one of the tours?

Thanks OGT for the suggestions and fishing offer. As for the fishing, I would be fishing with the wife and kid, which is why I was thinking about a pontoon boat, or something with a cover. This would help keep my kid's attention, but if we only go fishing for an hour or so, maybe it doesn't matter. Not the best fishing circumstances, but I want to introduce my daughter to the outdoors, lakes, fishing, etc. Still interested?

Sounds like Parker Lake is the ticket.

Have not been Bodie, but its a possibility. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sure it is and a great time of year for that easy hike! That road doesn't close until the October 31st or the first 6" of snowfall. The shuttles have stopped running so folks can drive down now. However, be aware of the traffic control for the logging trucks that will be bringing all that wood out of there from the 2011 Devils Windstorm blow down.

Sorry, I haven't been around in a couple of days. But yes the offer still stands. The pontoon boats at June cost $190 a day. My friends rented one last week and they are very nice to fish from. I have enough rods and reels for you, your wife and daughter. I'll send you a pm with my phone number.

Parker Lk., Walker Lk., Walker Lk. dirt road, and Lundy are all good. Even that Horse Canyon road is cool! I told OGT a while back how I stopped off 395 at Oil Plant Rd. and found the original wagon road. There was actually three different roads at different time periods and the fourth one is the modern highway. You know, it is just so interesting.

Yea, Lundy would also be a good hike for kids. Flat, with lots of scenery. And the kids would love the beaver ponds.
