My favorite hiking trail in the ES

I love all the trails so it is hard to pick a favorite. What is your favorite hiking trail in the ES? Tell us why and post a photo if you have one. Happy Trails!

Hey WS!! One of my favorites was Lake Sabrina to Midnight Lake - no pics, I can't find them! Was about 11 miles up to 11,000", something beautiful.These rock columns going straight up and collapsing; like Devil's Postpile on steroids along the shores of Midnight Lake - yes it was one of those "spiritual experiences". Sure it was many years ago but I'm not done yet... My GF now bride of 28 was up there for 5 days still remember it as yesterday... I'll find the pics some day.

A hike I remember well, pix are in a box in the garage, you go up to Bishop Pass and over into Dusy Basin. Hang a hard left and go over the saddle into Palisades Basin. Usually nobody there and the lakes have pretty darn good fishing...ie spinners

I have not been to either of those two places, but I heard they are outstanding. I hung out more around Rock Creek in my younger days and would often go over Half Moon Pass, down Mono Creek to Hopkins, loop around over the pass down into Pioneer Lakes Basin and out again. I did Italy Pass one time out of Pine Creek over to Hilgard Branch. That was pretty cool, especially by a depression in the talus called Jumble Lake.

So, one time I was coming back over Half Moon Pass in a rain storm and passed this real strange dude. He had boots, and a cast iron frying pan tied onto the back of his pack. He had all this real heavy stupid stuff and acted stupid to boot. One wonders about these Norman Clyde wannabees.

I climbed Whitney a couple of times before a permit was required. After that I left it to the tourists. I will never forget, and cjk you will like this, meeting up with two guys in '74 who were pushing homemade mountain bikes up the trail and had shorty skis on their backpacks including boots. They were going back to Franklin to ski the chutes. You talk about being ahead of your time. Those guys were pioneers of sports people take for granted today.

And nobody will ever ride a bike on the Whitney trail again.

Wish I'd been up enough Sierra trails to say what my favorite is. Never met one I didn't like.

Parker Lake - This hike is fairly short 4 miles, nice for family hike.Like a big Sanctuary then again I say that about so many different aspects of the Sierras. Need to go back up past the lake. Biker395 is absolutely correct about never meeting a hike I didn't like in the Sierras.

If it was allowed there would be folks mountain biking the Whitney trail daily!

I can not pick a favorite - far too many contenders. But I'll dig up some that are on the list...

Morgan Pass Trail is always enjoyable (and one I've wanted to ride over to Pine Creek )

Ive always had a thing for this place. the transition from sage to aspens, pines, and rugged in your face mountains with obvious geological features and colors.

when I bring new people to the sierra though I usually take them up rock creek to mosquito flatts trail, its busy but pretty.plus I like pie.

lundy is cool too, went up there last summer for the first time, didnt make it to the twenty lakes basin. that one is high on my list. hiking around saddlebag is also pretty cool

rush creek trail is a favorite of mine as well. oh and Duck.

as you guys said, every hike up here is a favorite.

It took me a few times into Green Lake to really appreciate the history there. My mind was blown after I found old cowboy and Paiute camps that are not seen in too many places. It is so easy to get to via the old pipeline at the South Lake parking lot that one can really explore further into more remote areas quickly. It is not back into the big canyons like Bishop Pass, so less people go to Green Lk.

I like it because it is less restrictive-no wilderness permit required. Once you venture off the trail up there will be the last time you see another person. It is really beautiful, too, but loaded with mosquitoes in certain areas.

Hiking around Tuolumne Meadows is always enjoyable and scrambling up Pothole Dome.

Lower Rock Creek Trail isn't in to back country but it's a great hike non the less...

Same here, I haven't met a hike up here that I didn't like.

A great day hike, I like to get an early start for this one. Slow and steady up the switchbacks. Rush Creek origins.
