4X4 Thread...

Postby Paradise Guy » Wed Aug 24, 2011 7:28 pm

Now that I'm posting photos, I thought it would be cool to add a 4X4 thread for those of us into that sort of stuff...I'm hoping that some of you will join in and share your favorite trails and some of your stories of getting stuck etc...Here's three images from a couple of my off road runs.

Looks like a fun trail. I haven't done much 4x4ing up around Mammoth although I did a nice long drive on dirt roads up around Bodie.

We have covered this topic before but called it OHV (Off Highway Vehicle) to include dirt bikes. We had a discussion about Laurel Mtn. Rd. recently. Skierbob had photos of Wheeler Ridge that were cool. There is so much to talk about.

You were in one of the burn areas in that Buttermilk photo. Look how fast the vegetation is coming back.

Sand Canyon Rd. to the Tamarack Bench is the best Sierra OHV experience outside of Coyote. Happy trails. You might even see Dave and Roma out there.

Did you go down the other side from Silver to Wyman Canyon? That is pretty cool, too! I did it in a two wheel drive utility truck one time. It was just like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

Ride on!

I dug up this old 4WD trip in our 1977 Landcruiser (SG is the original owner) in early August 2007 up to San Joaquin Ridge. Very easy drive and the views are to die for!

very cool, we've only really explored the trails inside of the scenic loop and on the other side of the 395... never enough time for exploring :D

^Sweet rig SL, do you still have it?

Ran the Masonic Road into Bodie last spring, good times. There was one section of trail covered by a huge snow drift that required a pretty tight bypass down into a canyon. My buddy did alright in his Nissan but my Chevy came away with some pretty serious pinstripes

Sdmarkus - you need to be more observant during the winter months.... that beautiful truck is the subject of many "how deep's the snow" photos! ;)

What do you think this is, the Jeepers Jamboree?

One place you big, bad 4 wheelers will not get to is Chinese Camp. Too bad suckers, get out and walk!

Anyone who thinks they are studly can try going down into Huntoon from this side and let me know how it was. You ain't comin' up it and that's for sure. Not unless you are rich and don't care about wrecking your rig.

But hey, prove me wrong.

Heh...you insult SG's Land Cruiser by calling it a Jeep! :o  ;) :D

OBB, you mean like this shot from 12/19/10 (SG's b-day!)?

That's a good description of Chidago Canyon after hanging out at a deep pit bar b q at the base of White Mountain peak all day and taking Chidago back to Pine Glade at 3 a.m.

Ok - thank you for that! I will NOT be doing silver canyon though I have always wondered about it....
I spend time in the Bodie Hills, the Sweetwaters and drive the road to Leavitt Lake several times every summer. Yeah, yeah, BS without pics.......I'll provide the next time round ok?

Oh. sdmarkus - it is called Sierra Pinstriping and it is a badge of honor.
