By Monday, the trail to lower Twilight only had one section of snow that had to be walked (about 20 ft). The snow will probably be gone by next week.

Great having runs on Twilight then Pipeline then Shotgun. To do all of Pipeline, the hike up Pipeline from Uptown was probably 100 to 150 yards.

Great Weekend -- Thanks Mammoth

Where are all the mountain bikers? Main Lodge and The Village both felt like ghost towns today! I know the wind was horrible for road riders, but was it bad on the hill? I was shocked at how few MTB folks there were. We need more people out there!

Seriously? Waited in line multiple times at the gondi and the bus stop today. The wind sucked, but there were plentttty of people on the trails.

That's good to know! It seemed like the Main Lodge parking lot wasn't that full, and the shuttle busses were few on the road.

Does anyone know if there are plans to open Upper Skid Marks so you can get to Bullet without hiking from mid? How about Chainsmoke, anyone know the status of that trail?

Thanks,
Brent

chainsmoke didn't even open last summer due to heavy washouts near the waterfall, doubt it will open this summer. as for upper skid marks it might not be open but you can still send it, the bike rangers won't be able to see you from the adventure ctr.

Oddly enough, looks like Skid Marks and Velocity opened today! Park website has them listed as open now.

Any rumblings about declaring a closing date for the mtn bike park in 2012?
I'm trying to plan a trip as late in the season as possible and would like to know when I should plan for?
(yea, I know, weather ultimately defines it, but it would be nice to know at least how late MM hopes to be open)
Thanks in advance!

Since the closing date is not on their calendar of events, I suggest you simply call them and ask.

I did call a couple weeks ago, they didn't know.
I figure the community here might be more tuned into the local news than whoever answers the phone. :!:

Well, I find it interesting that no one at MMSA knows the closing date of the Bike Park. They HAVE to close at a certain time each September in order to have the gondola serviced for pre-winter maintenance. I'd call again and ask for the Bike Park Director Dave Geirman directly...he'll know. Oh then tell him it's not on MMSA's website calendar yet. :| Folks in town wouldn't know when it closes until MMSA advises us!

This was on MMSA's Opening Day (11/8) email this morning:

Autumn in Mammoth

Not quite ready for the flakes to fall? Visit Mammoth in September for your last chance to enjoy the Bike Park or a round of golf at Sierra Star. The Bike Park will be open daily until September 16, and then on weekends only for the rest of the month. Sierra Star is open for business through October 8, with great deals on golf like the Unlimited 19-Day Pass and Value Season pricing on single rounds.
