Best day ever off the scenic loop for sure. Boot deep pow, not one other human being in sight & my favorite touring partner.

Nice, if you're up for driving on Friday morning, come up this way for a sample of why it's worth it to travel for surf. ;-)

Even if the surf sucks, you know I'll hook you up with good beer. Sorry my phone battery went dead yesterday. But I'll post pics from this weekend eventually. Didn't drop switch, but aired a cornice myself. I call it "old guy drops big cornice with little speed and spends the whole drive home thinking about doing it right".

it went down in Tahoe last weekend. L to R Bonnie and Jim Zellers (if you've thought of snowboard descending any line in the eastern Sierra, you should probably thank these two for doing it first), me, Jeremy Jones, and Chris Gallardo (splitboard.com owner)....Donner Summit:

This one unfortunately hits close to home. Christian was an old friend from the Mammoth days who continued to chase his passions and live the ultimate dream. Thoughts and prayers go out to all his friends and family. Stay safe out there folks, no one is immune from these kinds of accidents.

Wow Mark. I read that story but didn't know he had connections here in SoCal. Sorry to hear it. Sounds like a cornice collapse. The story I read said he wasn't actually acting as a guide when it happened though...pretty fuzzy on the details. Be safe out there!

Gosh how tragic. So sorry about the loss of your friend sdmarkus. Prayers to his family and loved ones. :(

I can't help but worry a little about RBS and crew who are heading back to Haines to heli ski in a couple of months. Those are damn big mountains in AK.

Does anyone know if they have/will remove the signs at June by Saturday morning? I tried calling the number on the ESAC site but it sends me to some "Verizon number disconnected" message.

What signs? What am I missing? What's the deal with Saturday? They have changed signs at least 3 times this year though, most recently I believe was about 10 days ago when Max, Mark and I were there. Saw the dude doing it.

This is on the Eastern Sierra Avalanche Page

At this time, June Mountain Patrol has closed all access to June Mountain Ski Area due to impending avalanche hazard mitigation work. The phone message has been updated - please call 760. 920- 7055. June Mountain ski patrol will update the message and remove the signs as soon as the hazard has been deemed mitigated.

Things getting a bit dicey now with the wind and snow. Whitebark Ridge fell out from underneath me today while dropping. Wind slab built up from snow blowing over the ridge. If its that way inbounds, it will be way sketchier in the BC. Be safe people, its been awhile since we had winter and the urge to ride the BC with all the new snow will be very tempting.
