Backcountry ski thread

Postby quacque » Sat Dec 25, 2010 9:13 pm

No lifts, no lift lines, no grooming, no moguls, no crowds, no Patrol, variable snow conditions, a long, long way to walk up and a short time to ski down.

I don't know how to post pics to the forvm, but the link should take you to some photos from today's bc trip in the Wheeler Crest. Long walk, windy on top, fun.

Pretty cool shots, how long of a hike to the top? Did you need snowshoes or did you skin? About how many turns did you get per run and how many runs did you take? Sorry for the inquisition but I am really interested, I am a big fan of no lift lines or people and earning turns.

Skinned up. A few hours to the top--it's about a 4000' run. One run down, lots and lots of turns.

Unless you can enjoy going up as much as coming down, it will seem very dull and pointless.

Going up is just as rewarding as going down in that situation, it is not all about the run but more about conquering that 4000k and getting to ride down it! Right on man, great to see some people hiking for their fun and I would love to see anymore bc stuff you do this year.

If all goes well, all those other people getting out in the backcountry will post some photos here, too.

So I have these photos in photobucket . . . what do i have to do to post them directly into the forum? I know this has been discussed ad nauseum, but i never paid attention . . .

Thanks for sharing and way to get after it!
^Maxpower, I completely agree about enjoying the effort up. Conquering a mountain of almost any size is always rewarding in my opinion

You just need to choose the edit function for each photo and then adjust the size. I'm not positive about the total size the forum allows but I upload my photos at 640/478pixels and they always fit. Once you have re-sized the photos, copy the IMG Code (4th code down below the photo) and simply paste it on your post.

Edit: Your photo's are already properly sized. Simply hold the mouse pointer over the picture in your gallery and below it will pop up the codes. Then just click on the IMG Code and your computer will copy it. Then create a post and press "Control V" or right click and and select "paste"

Here's one for your photos

hey, thanks--I must have tried all the wrong buttons. That photo is of the best snow all day, which was the last pitch before the bottom. I suspect all this wind is going to mess up the backcountry for a while.

Sick photos quacque...One question, did you do the section of Wheeler Crest above Swall north or more towards Mt Tom. The slopes area around Mt Tom are lookin really nice. Just wondering...

It was a perfect day to be outside in the mountains, even though the snow conditions ranged from pretty good to horribly bad.

Heading up toward Bishop Bowl, above Aspendell--

I give up on trying to upload individual photos: no matter how I resize the thing, I keep getting the 'can't be more than 700 pixels wide' message, even though the resized image is 800 x 600.

So here's a link to some photos, in no particular order, of hkiing up Bishop Bowl today . . .

While I appreciate this thread and your shots, you do realize 800 is more than 700, right?

I used to be with it, then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with, isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me. It'll happen to yoooouuu.

it said no more than 700 wide. it didn't say no more than 700 tall. I'm just following directions: if it wanted the other dimension smaller, it should have specified height, right?

Those photos look sick. I can imagine myself hiking to those peaks in summer time but in winter? Seems above my ability thank you very much...Keep posting if you want.
