I wonder what the benefits are. Must be pretty decent. Season pass for Mammoth and June? Oops. Strike that. Just Mammoth. Looks like the benefit package just went down in value. ;) :o

Just a guess, but the ratio of bennies to salary for any town's chief is probably higher than the same ratio for its other execs. You'd want him to have his own specially-equipped car, for example, which is gonna be more than the car allowances that non-police execs would have. Life, health (, car?) insurance is another that might fall into a special more expensive category (please stop thinking doughnuts, kooks) due to risks, I dunno.

Here is a fun little government website..

Government Compensation in California
http://gcc.sco.ca.gov/

3.5% is acceptable in the private(evil) sector for retirement match.
80% is acceptable for government jobs..

I believe this one of the reasons for cities going BK.. The state is not far behind..

A state cannot claim bankruptcy.

And in today's MT gossip column:

While we’re idling away here, we’d just like to say “Welcome San Berdoo to the B-rupt Party!” As for the Gadzooks Moment of the Week, here’s City Attorney James Penman, who said for 13 of the last 16 years, city budget officials had “falsified documents presented to the mayor and council.” Gosh. Makes us look like mere pikers. …

I looked up salaries for Los Angeles County. The scariest part is, for LA County only, there are 219 pages of salaried employees! Did I say two hundred and nineteen pages?!?! The salaries and compensation packages are quite nice too.

...and the last PD he ran was glad to see him go.

300K does seem a little excessive for a town like ML. Of course there are bears to deal with, so that must justify such a salary and benefits

An entertaining letter from Paul Oster's blog:

Back to mediation for Mammoth and MLLA

...
Town officials stated that they could not pay the $43 million lawsuit judgment owed to MLLA. They also said that MLLA refused to participate in the mandated 60-day mediation with creditors. MLLA’s attorney Dan Brockett said there would be no point to further mediation considering the failure of months of talks and negotiations with Mammoth officials.

The Bankruptcy Court apparently disagreed. Judge Thomas Holman, who is assigned to Mammoth’s case, issued an order to appoint Judge Perris to mediate. He also ordered the first mediation session for August 6 and 7 in Los Angeles.

:D

Let's get the party started. S.O.B.'s have been on a spending spree for years. That goes for the State too.

It's time to pay the piper.

The last thing I feel is sad about it. It's about time public agencies, cities and the State operate within their means like the rest of us have too.
